I sent an email to Will Carroll of the Baseball Prospectus to ask him for his take on the Colby Rasmus knee injury news. Here is his response:

It’s the same thing [Juan] Pierre had, so long term is not a concern. G1 is a good sign.

So that’s comforting, coming from an injury expert. Here is Goold’s reporting of the injury for the Post-Dispatch. It sounds like we dodged a bullet, but I feel bad for Rasmus that he will miss the Olympics – it would have been a great honor for him.

The system played six games tonight and went 5-1. All the details are after the jump.

Portland 0, Memphis 1

  • Brian Barden was 2-4.
  • Brian Barton had his first rehab start and he went 1-4.
  • Josh Phelps was 1-4 with a double.
  • David Freese was 1-3.
  • Mike Parisi scattered seven hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out two.
  • Jason Motte escaped with a scoreless inning after allowing two hits.
  • Chris Perez had a dominant inning, striking out all three batters he faced.
  • Mark Worrell got the save with a two strikeout inning in the ninth.

Arkansas 4, Springfield 2

  • Jose Martinez was 3-4 with a double and a home run.
  • Mark Shorey also homered in going 1-4.
  • Andrew Brown was 1-3 with a walk.
  • Jess Todd was hittable tonight, allowing eight knocks over 4.1 innings. He gave up four runs and struck out six while walking one.
  • Adam Daniels pitched 2.2 perfect innings, striking out a pair.
  • Jon Mikrut pitched the final two innings, allowing only a pair of hits.

Palm Beach 5, Dunedin 3

  • Daryl Jones went off this afternoon, going 4-4 with a home run, a walk, a stolen base and four rbi.
  • Brian Cartie also had a nice game, going 3-3 with a double and a walk.
  • Brandon Buckman was 1-2 with a double, a HBP and a walk.
  • Tyler Norrick got the start and pitched a perfect inning and then was replaced. He was shelled in five innings his last outing. I hope this isn’t a recurrance of the shouler problem that has plagued him this season.
  • Because of Norrick’s quick departure this became a bullpen game for the Cardinals: Eddie Degerman pitched three innings and gave up three runs, Dan Bilardello pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, Casey Mulligan pitched a perfect 1.2 innings with a pair of strikeouts, and Kenny Maiques and Francisco Samuel each pitched a scoreless inning.

Quad Cities 6, Lansing 4

  • D’Marcus Ingram, Brett Wallace and Thommy Pham were each 2-5. Pham doubled.
  • Chuckie Fick had an off night, giving up four runs in 6.2 innings. He gave up five hits and two walks and he struck out a pair.
  • Eduardo Sanches pitched 2.1 scoreless innings, striking out four.
  • Pete Parise pitched the final two innings without allowing a run and striking out three.

Oneonta 3, Batavia 5

  • Catcher Blake Murphy was 2-4 with a pair of doubles.
  • Beau Riportella was 2-3 with a double.
  • Jose Garcia, Colt Sedbrook and Shane Peterson were each 1-3. Peterson doubled and drove in four.
  • Miguel Tapia got the start and lasted five innings, giving up two runs on two hits and a walk while striking out a pair.
  • Scott Gorgen followed with three innings, giving up a run on one hit and a pair of walks. He struck out four.
  • Adam Reifer pitched a perfect inning, striking out one for the save.

Bristol 2, Johnson City 4

  • Osvaldo Moralez was 2-4 with a homerun.
  • Edgar Lara was 2-4 with a homerun and a double.
  • Paul Cruz and Curt Smith were each 2-3. Smith also walked and Cruz doubled.
  • Deryk Hooker pitched three scoreless innings, giving up two hits and striking out four.
  • Scott McGregor also pitched three innings, giving up an unearned run on three hits and three walks.
  • Randy Santos pitched one inning, giving up an unearned run. He struck out a pair.
  • Jose Mateo and Jorge Rondon each pitched a scoreless inning.

  1. Mike says:

Is Curt Smith anything to be excited about? Or is he another Brandon Buckman/Steve Hill/Mark Shorey?

  2. erik says:

    I’d say he’s another Shorey.

  3. theohall says:

The only question I’ve got now, is how long are they gonna leave Wallace at Quad Cities? He’s one guy they should fast track until he stalls.

  4. Pierce says:

Daryl Jones deserves to be up in Springfield.

  5. picklefork says:

I wonder if Daryl has another brother Daryl?

A little Newhart comedy for the Nick at Nite fans:)

  6. jimmy joe says:

What does it say about Jones that he’s moved all around the lineup. Whith his speed, he seems to be a top-of-the-order guy. I know he has power too, but LaRussa would bat him first or second.

  7. shaneo69 says:

So will Tyler Greene move up to play SS at Memphis when Barden goes to China, or will they just plug Jimenez in at SS?

  8. bookerd says:

Ismael Cardona (catcher) was promoted from QC to Palm Beach after Paul Vazquez was activated.

David Brito is dealing down in the VSL – he has given up only 1 run in 27-1/3 innings

  9. BigJawnMize says:

Well thanks gawd Colby was not on the “Watch” or the curse could have made this knee injury thing a lot worse.

  10. roarke says:

Amaury Marti has broken the Watch Curse with the power of his glare.

  11. cardsfan1 says:

Daryl Jones is going up to Springfield, Cody Haerther is going to Memphis.

Tyler Norrick is having problems with his shoulder again. He is going to the doctor today to see what is wrong.

  12. shaneo69 says:

What happened to Arnoldi? He hasn’t played since 7/16.

  13. shaneo69 says:

    cardsfan1:

Did something happen to Shane Robinson? I saw that he got replaced by Rico in the 4th inning yesterday, and now the Haerther promotion.

  14. Nick says:

My boy Deryk Hooker continues to impress. I know he is still at a very low level but he has done nothing but dominate at that level so far.

  15. cardsfan1 says:

I’m pretty sure Haerther is going up to replace Rasmus. I’m not sure if Shane is hurt, but I can try and find out.

  16. cardsfan1 says:

shaneo69- Robinson is hurt but I am not sure the extent of it
