Its all in TLR plan in case he needs fresh arms. Obviously the way our pen pitched in the Brew Crew series he wasn't needed, everyone was fresh (sarcasm layed on thick).

Someone give us a report on Mark McCormick. He had a rehab start with the GCL Cardinals yesterday, gave up a homer for the only run while striking out five in two innings and walking one.

Well, that's a bit of report but somebody give us the overall physical picture on him. He had been resting his ailing shoulder for a while.

What do you guys think about the idea of going with a rotation of Lohse, Piniero, Looper, Boggs and Garcia while we wait for Carp and Waino to come back. Then put Wellemeyer in the pen because his arm is obviously sore but hopefully he would give some relief to McClellan and Franklin. When we get Carp back put Looper in the pen. Then when we get Waino back maybe he closes for the regular season and starts in the postseason. We would send out Boggs or Garcia whichever one is doing better stays.

Yeah, that was a pretty embarrassing debacle Waltdub. Apparently that guy throwing the baseball as hard as he could hit a fan and is now faced with charges. I'm sure the Ryno can't be too pleased.

KUSTL-I don't think the Cardinals are sellers now, it's just 4 games although after getting swept by the Brewers it feels a lot bigger than that. I think if anything, they are buyers, and they have to get a reliever who doesn't suck. That may mean overpaying for Sherrill or someone else, I don't know. It's unbelievable how the entire bullpen is infected with crap-itis this season.

Small addition: Barton was also HBP, meaning he reached base in all 6 PAs. Nice.

Very cool to see Jones make it Double-A. I hope he has time to get used to the new level and end the season with some success. That's my only trepidation with the promotion... he's been shaky enough in recent seasons that I'd almost prefer to let him finish the season on a roll at high-A rather than take a chance on bumping up against a new ceiling in Springfield. We'll see.

Check out what happened in a Class A game last night between Peoria and Dayton. Neither teams are Cardinals farmhands, but it's still fun to share...

Vianden:

Yes, I was trying (poorly) to make a joke about him languishing on the bench for so long in the first half. I love watching the guy play (he was the most exciting guy on the field for most of Spring Training) and it pained me to see him just hanging out in the dugout every game.

Your comment about Barton being ready to return to the Cards misses the real value of having him in the PCL -- the opportunity to play in AAA, which he has never done and which as a rule 5 player he would otherwise be unable to do without arrangement with the Indians. He should stay where he is as long as he can and play every inning. That's the sweet part in his case of the DL.
