Despite winning tonight, Springfield was eliminated. NW Arkansas won nine in a row, so there is not much else they can do. It’s a bummer, because that means less DFR’s for us to do. Palm Beach will be in the playoffs because they won their first half, and Batavia could make the playoffs, but they hurt their chances by losing to 1st place Jamestown tonight. Details after the jump.
- Jess Todd was roughed up in his final start and may have hurt his chances to be named the organizational pitcher of the year. 4 IP, 7 H, 5 ER, 4 BB, 4 K, 1 HR.
- Randy Flores allowed a two-run homer. Just cut him loose already.
- Jarrett Hoffpauir homered and doubled.
- Uncle Rico Washington also went yard.
- Brett Wallace went 2-3 with a double and a walk. We’ll be sure to keep tabs of Brett and all the Cardinals in the AFL and winter ball this year.
- Andrew Brown went 2-4.
- Daryl Jones went 0-4 with three strikeouts, a walk and a stolen base.
- Adam Ottavino had a nice outing to end his season. He threw seven innings and allowed only four hits while striking out for. His only run allowed was a solo homer. His stock has taken quite a hit after a rough year, but hopefully this gives him momentum heading into AFL and he can reassert himself.
- Josh Dew picked up the two inning save. He walked and struck out one.
Palm Beach 5, Vero Beach 4 (7 innings)
- Colby Rasmus went 0-4 with 2 K’s. He hasn’t got a hit yet for PB. The P-D reports that the Cards hopes Colby latches on with a winter ball team.
- Nick Derba hit two homers and walked. With his .166 batting average, I’m surprised he hasn’t been given a shot on the mound. But tonight was a start.
- Steve Hill doubled and walked.
- Tyler Henley went 2-4 with a double and a homer.
- Shaun Garceau continues to win despite walking way too many batters. He walked five batters in five innings. He allowed four hits, four earned runs and struck out two. Despite a nice 3.42 ERA, he has a 56/55 K/BB ratio. That ain’t gonna cut it.
- Francisco Samuel closed it out, but walked two batters in the process.
Palm Beach’s second game in the doubleheader was postponed.
- Jon Edwards and Blake Murphy both went 2-3 with a homer.
- Curt Smith went 2-4 with a double.
- Domnit Bolivar went 2-4 and was caught stealing.
- Charles Fick has been surprisingly good this season. He struck out six in six innings. He allowed two earned runs on five hits.
- Charles Cutler went 2-3 with a HBP.
- Colt Sedbrook was charged with three errors and stole his eleventh base.
- Jose Garcia went 2-4 with two stolen bases.
- Arquimedes Nieto lost his first game of the year. He allowed six runs, four earned on eight hits and a walk over four innings. He struck out two.

No comments? Odd. Colby…ouch. I hope he does well too. He’s had so much tough luck this year. He needs something positive.
Too bad about Todd. Yet again I agree with the Randy Flores comment. Just let go.
I’m going to miss all the minor league talk…and the dfr’s. I will look forward to the afl, Wallace being there, and coach Pop Warner too. And be on the look out for Raz too.
Just a minor tweak to make…
I’m assuming Fransisco Samuel’s line is supposed to read “two strikeouts and two walks” instead of “two walks and two walks.”
I was at the Springfield game last night. Ottavino was really dealing! Cards should have gotten more runs for him–they had the opportunities.
It was late. I hate it when I goof like that. Oh well.
We’ve got seven months to hash this out but both my short term and long term expectations for Colby have taken a hit. He seems given to long slumps and has not responded well to injury or last year’s “sinus infection”. I hope his winter ball experience will be at a high level of competition and that he does well enough to restore my confidence.
Colby really has had some tough luck but these are the kind of struggles that a young player hopefully learns from. All in all, it was a really good year. Thanks for another great year guys, this really is the best Cards minor league site around. Keep up the good work.
The Derba comment was funny – I am worried about our catching prospects. We have Anderson and not much else it seems. Are any of the minor league catchers hitting above .250 besides Anderson. I know we have Molina so its not like we need a catcher anytime soon, but it would be nice to have somebody putting up some numbers.
It’s sad to see Nico have such a great season end on such a downturn. Hopefully this taste of the next level will help next year’s start.
Your right we are looking weak in our catching prospects. I was hoping fou Luis De La Cruz to step up and become a solid prospect but he got off to a slow start and then got hurt. But Audris Perez kinda took his spot as our low level catching prospects, with his very nice year.
Easy, I understand what you’re saying. It has been tough on him, and as a fan, it wasn’t fun seeing him go through this slump. My hope is that it makes him work that much harder, that much hungrier for the future. Something tells me he’s learned some things this seaon, and knows that he has to push himself. Just hope he doesn’t push too hard. I also think he’ll mature in a sense as well.
Heck, I didn’t even notice the goof(s).
