I'm much more inclined to clamor for Barden than for Freese. Barden is with the team already so the "don't want to use a 40-man spot" argument doesn't fly.

That said, I'm not holding my breath.

My guess as to why the Cards are resisting a recall of either Rasmus or Freese is that both players do not have the number of years of experience to require either to be put on the 40 man roster. Accordingly the Cards would strongly prefer to be able to go into the 2009 season without adding them, thus saving 2 spots on the 40 man roster to either sign free agents or to protect other prospects who do have the number of years experience to require addition to the 40 roster to avoid possible loss in the Rule 5 draft. Finally an unused 40 man roster spot allows for the possibility for the Cards to make a Rule 5 draft pick (like Brian Barton). If you can juggle a player such as Barton for the ensuing season that you have to keep him on the 25 man roster (including phantom disabled list stints), the Rule 5 draft is a very good way to pick up good young prospects (like Barton, Hamilton TX) or relievers (like Soria KC), particularly lefties (Joe Hoerner), who are often unprotected.

Our 49th-round pick out-pitched Boston's supplemental 1st-rounder and 3rd-rounder tonight. That's what I like to see.

Veres has had a really solid start to his pro career. He 's a guy that has definitely intrigued me, and I look forward to seeing how he progresses.

Good Luck Muckdogs!

Sometimes I just don't get Tony and his desires to keep the young guys out. I get that he has more faith in a "veteran" such as Lopez because he has more time in the majors, but if you have guys who can fill your hole and give you good defense, why not use them? I really do believe that Tony has a vendetta against Colby now. It just makes sense...bring up a true centerfielder who can run well and catch everything hit to him. I'd rather see Rasmus in the outfield than Lopez and Josh Phelps.
