Batavia defeated the Jamestown Grapes (that’s what their stupid mascot looks like at least — I refuse to find out what it actually is) 9-3. They brought their good bats to the game breaking out for 13 hits including 4 doubles.
- Colt Sedbrook was 1-for-3 with a pair of walks in the leadoff position.
- Shane Peterson went 3-for-5 with a double.
- Frederick Parejo gets offensive honors for his 4-for-4 effort with a double.
- Hector Cardenas threw 6 innings of 4 hit ball with his only ‘error’ being a solo shot in the 6th.
- Adam Reifer had a lock down ending recording 5 outs (3 Ks) allowing just 1 hit.
Congratulations to the Muckdogs as they won the New York Penn League Title!

Great team win by the Muckdogs (opponent was the Jammers (Grape Jam, get it?)). Offense came alive and defense played really well too. Cardenas got tons of groundballs and infield defense helped him a lot. Colt Sedbrook played well, think Eckstein with a good arm.
Relief pitcher G Brown’s line is deceiving. He came in in the 7th with a runner on and struck out the side. In the 8th, got another strikeout then put 2 runners on. Reifer came in, got one out then allowed both inherited runners to score. Made the game 4-3 Dogs but they answered, and then some, in their half of the eighth to put the game away. Reifer then closed the door.
Good game all around, very entertaining. Congratulations to the Muckdogs!
and the future grows brighter…
From the Jamestown Jammers wiki page:
“In the offseason before the 2006 season, in an attempt to put an end once and for all to the “what is a Jammer?” questions, the Jammers changed their logo to a cartoon grape theme. The new logo represents the strong tradition of grape-growing in Chautauqua County. On June 19, the eve of opening day, the team officially announced the name of its new mascot: Bubba Grape, the Baseball Ape.”

Um……if that doesn’t clear it up, I don’t know what will……
How many of these guys will skip QC and head straight to PB? Seems like there were a few who did that last year?
I would think some of the college guys like Peterson, Sedbrook, and Curtis might.
So Reifer exemplifies everything wrong with the “save” stat for this game. He came in with inherited runners and allowed both of them to score, had there been 1 less run of a lead he would have “blown the save”. I like Reifer but man you can’t let those runners score when you are only up by 3.
There was obviously a change in philosophy after last year’s dismal season. All of the impact players were sent to QC or PB as soon as they showed they were capable of moving on which for some was within a few games. This year I think they took a different strategy and actually tried to compete with the other teams by keeping those that could make an impact on the team.
I don’t think that it is a matter of skipping a level but rather staying where they most likely belonged their first season. Short season is a lot different than the regular season. High A is alot differnt than low A.
Just an observation.
Forgot…. Congratulations to the Batavia Muckdogs.
