HL-

I know right...with him and Rasmus our outfield is looking solid in the next couple years. I hate to say it but I doubt we will really need to keep Ankiel when he reaches free agency.

Is Jones not playing Winter Ball? If not, why not? He's got just as good a chance to get to the MLB level in late 2009/2010 as anyone.

Everyone needs to chill. Rasmus isn't going anywhere, Mo is in charge not Larussa. Mo is smarter than Larussa on selecting personel.

"Interest exists in retaining pending free-agent Jason Isringhausen after the franchise's career saves leader required surgery earlier this month to repair a torn tendon near his right elbow.

Manager Tony La Russa and pitching Dave Duncan have broached the possibility of Perez closing in Memphis or spending next season in St. Louis in a different relief role."

Somebody go ahead and kill me now.

I keep wondering about Marti. His general absence from the U.S. has me wondering whether he has visa problems? Anyone with any insight?

I don't normally agree with Bernie, and it is fitting that his title is something I have been thinking about lately. Now I can't get the darn article to open but the title says it all...

Cards can't go cheap on retreads

The worst things the Cards can do this winter is trade Rasmus in my opinion. Unless you are getting Hanley R. or Jose R. back Colby has to stay in this organization. The second worse thing is picking up yet another 'Duncan project' or trading the work-aholic Freese for one.

Granted we all agree that the Redbirds didn't panic and make a reactive deal when CC and Harden joined the division, and I really hope they stay away from those types of deals here in the next couple of months. One good way to upgrade trade talent is to have them play winter ball, but here is my other take.

Why not have some of the winter ball crew try different positions? Freese at a corner OF spot or some reps at 1B/2B. Marti wherever he feels but maybe some insurance for Albert in case the surgery does happen. All of the lefties heading to Arizona speaks volumes, and I think this winter will give us a big shot in the arm heading into ST.

By the way the Cards also have a pretty gaping hole in their rotation with Carpenters condition appearing to become worse and worse. So why blow it all on a power hitting shortstop or second baseman? Short sided-ness is starting to pervade Cardinals culture.

It seems like Cardinals fans can't wait to get rid of the guy, they act as if power hitting middle infielders are growing on trees and its terrible that the Birds don't have one. So they are willing to trade the farm to get a guy like tulowitzki. Its insane for a team that says it is trying to rebuild from within, to then trade someone with the talent level of Rasmus for sixty cents on the dollar. It angers the mind, when you hear the counter intuitiveness of the so-called "greatest fans in baseball".

man, freese is working his butt to death this year. hope he doesn't get worn out. he's a trooper, too - not sure what more he needs to prove after his season. just trying to hone his skills a little more, i guess...

as far as colby goes, it seems to me that rest/working out will just be a different type of positive for him. maybe he wants to make sure his body's back at 110%, as you said. but here's hoping he finds a way to recover his timing, as well.
