I know alot of people make the jokes about Amaury Marti and I think some of them are pretty funny. My question though is honestly, why don’t the Cardinals give him a shot? It seems like he has some pretty good baseball skills nd may not necessarily be a full time starter, but he could turn out to be a good bench guy with some right handed pop to his bat.

AJ, the problem with Marti is that he’s now like 35 years old or something. I believe when he was drafted as a Cuban defector he was already 32 or thereabouts. The club probably feels that if they’re going to give at bats to a minor leaguer, it should be a minor leaguer with the potential to get better. Marti is almost to the point where his skills will begin to decline due to age.

I would still love to see him make at least one plate appearance as a St. Louis Cardinal though. Even if it’s only a couple weeks worth of at-bats, a la Rico Washington this past year.

He could be an option as a righty bat off the bench if Mather or Barton don’t make the club out of ST if nothing else (assuming Ludwick is the starting outfielder).
