I thought this thing would die and sure enough, it’s dead.
Dustin Mattison looks at some FAT LOOGYs.(Um, that would be minor league free agent lefty relievers.)
Arizona
Off day.
Hawaii
- James Rapoport went 0-for-3 with 2 walks and was caught stealing.
- Blake King allowed a solo homer in his one inning of relief work. Box
PR
- Bryan Anderson had an embarrassing game defensively. He allowed 3 steals in 3 attempts, a passed ball and had a throwing error. At the plate, he went 1-for-4. Box.
DR
- Amaury Marti went 3-for-5 with a HR and drove in 2. Box. Amaury will convince some GM that they must trade for Adam Kennedy.

So, being as awesome as he is, can Marti play second or short? Or for that matter close? I would think we could find a place, just his meer presence will make the other team cower.
interesting info on available lefty relievers. the guy i am really gung-ho for is affeldt; i think he could be a real force in our pen. there are some other names that are quite intriguing though. dennys reyes is an interesting guy on the big league front. from the minors, i gotta say i would be interested in taking a flier on andy sisco. the former high school teammate of blake hawksworth has upside, and it would be worth a minor league invite to see what he can do.
what’s the scouting report of tyler norrick? if memory serves correct, i’ve heard he has a good arm, so-so breaking ball. can anyone elaborate? furnish is a loogy; don’t pull another haberer on us. just convert him next year so we have some depth from the left side….my opinion.
Norrick can get it up to 92-93 but you are correct, average breaking ball and not much else. Myeh.
Now that Holliday is dead, can we refocus on Escobar? Getting a cost controlled gold glove caliber SS whose offense is likely to improve gives you payroll flexibility in 2009 and even more so in 2010. In theory, you could replace Ludwick’s production with someone like Raul Ibanez and still have enough payroll room to sign Lopez for 2B, and two LH relievers (from Marte, Ohman, Beimel, Affeldt).
Apparently, the Cardinals are one of the teams who are interested in Escobar, but because the Braves are using Yunel as a centerpiece for Jake Peavy, everything’s on hold until something happens with that.
With the progress of the walrus, and Freese twiddling his thumbs in AAA, does anyone else think we should at least try and trade Glaus while his stock is high?
In case my other communication did not get through, I most definately want you to be a guest on the United Cardinals Bloggers radio show set for December 3. As you might expect, I would like to pick your brains regarding the fall and winter league action relative to the Cardinals, as you are the UCB resident expert in that field.
Of course, your usual crowd is welcome to join in the fun. As you may know, we can take call-ins from listeners and I am a host that believes in letting the callers voice their opinions.
Also, I will launching my own radio talk show soon and would like you to guest on that as well.
Tnek, Yes!
I think the Angels would be a perfect trading partner. They have bee linked to the Atkins talks so it is possible they could want Glaus back and they also have a need to replace Garret Anderson. They have a surplus in the middle infield.
Would this make sense?
Troy Glaus, Skip Schumaker, and Allen Craig for Howie Kendrick and Brandon Wood?
@ tnek … it’s something that could be considered, but I don’t think TLR would allow it to happen and i’m not completely sold that Freese is ready for an everyday job. The 3B FA market isn’t that great, so someone might want him for a one-year stop gap … but that’s what everyone is hoping he is for us.
Blue,
Glaus has a full NTC.
I’m okay with playing a year between Freese, Wallace, and Ryan playing 3rd, if trading Glaus would help bring in a young ss and sp or releiver.
