I just posted an interview and you start going on about how he’s probably not going to make it. Well, no one is saying he will. It just seems that your always taking the contrary viewpoint and frankly it just wears on me after a while. Maybe I need thicker skin about it, but when that’s all that seems to come from you, and it gets really old. I never was trying to be insulting.

Erik, that was unnecessary and insulting. I repeat: I would very much like to see Chris Swauger succeed, and I too appreciate the interview. But a good interview, and a good story, can often get people’s hopes up — and hopes become expectations, and then bad things start to happen. That’s in no one’s interest. Please take an attempt at perspective in the constructive spirit in which it was intended and scrap the attacks, OK?

Bill, no one is saying he’s a future star or even a big leaguer. I’m just happy he allowed me to interview him. He obviously has some talent and a good head on his shoulders. I don’t mean to be forward, but you are quite the contrarian. Most of the time it is good, but sometimes it’s just plain unnecessary.

I like the cut of his jib too, and I definitely hope he succeeds, but for perspective, remember that the team that he helped carry to a championship is the low-A franchise, and Chris was decidedly old for that level. (The same is true for Adam Reifer, another Muckdog who’s drawn some attention around here.) We’ll be pullin’ for ya, Chris, but let’s not get too emotionally invested; the track record for 22-year-old low-A players going on to major-league stardom is not the best.

Great interview, erik! Good luck to Chris Swauger. He really seems to have his head in the right place. Mental makeup is such an inderrated tool. Regardless of talent it takes a ton of hard work to adjust and succeed in pro ball. I think going to the Citadel really paid off for Chris.
