Kevin Goldstein has his Top 11 Red prospects, and there are a system flush with hitters. As for pitching, not so much. KG concludes:
The Reds system isn’t what it used to be, but after putting as much talent in the majors as they did in 2008, fans have nothing to complain about. There’s still a nice collection of hitting prospects here, but when it comes to pitching, which remains a big need at the major league level, the system is paper-thin.
At Bird Land’s community Top 30, it’s an unbelievably close runoff between Jess Todd and Daryl Jones. If you haven’t voted yet, do so.
- Playing 3B, Tyler Greene went 1-for-3 with a solo homer and a walk.
- Shane Robinson went 1-for-5 and committed a costly fielding error in a 6 run 8th.
That’s it. Hawaii’s game was canceled, and other the other teams that have Cardinal players had the night off. Only a couple regular season games left for Honolulu.

Jason Donald is tearing up the AFL right now. Although I’m still pining for Yunel Escobar, I could see a scenario where Ludwick goes to the Phillies for Donald if Burrell moves on. Donald has to be traded with Rollins and Utley in PHI.
Ludwick would be overpaying for Donald, but PHI doesn’t have great options at 3B. I wonder if Freese + OF surplus would do the trick.
That’s a good trade suggestion, Burt. It’s not like Pedro Feliz is the long term answer at the hot corner for the Phils.
He is signed for another year, though. At $5 mill – what a terrible contract. Supposedly he’s still above average w/ the glove, but his career OBP is under .300. And the Phillies still won the WS.
