Everyone is complaining about not having any offensive production from the shortstop position. Now there is, with a lot of upside. Defensively, Greene is comparable to Izturis, averaging about 10 errors a season. His Petco figures are abysmal... but that park is a Grand Canyon, last in the league for hitters ! Look at Greene's away stats...For his career, Greene is a .270 hitter AWAY compared to the Petco .225. Hitting at Busch should help Khalil somewhat. He projects to be, with the differences in ballparks according to my figuring, about 30-40 points better in batting average...In fact, this is what I came up with for a regular season with his favorable away stats and hitting in a more friendly hitting ballpark: 597 ABs - 157 hits - 36 2B - 2 3B- 24HR- 85 RBI- .263 average. With this being a "walk" year, and being motivated by that and proving the Padres wrong, he should top his career average of .248. He did hit .273 one year. I think that this young man will do well in St. Louis, and it is a good move. Bill James projects him for nearly 20 HR with still being in a San Diego uniform... what is not to like ? If Greene doesn't play well, we won't offer him a contract. If he plays well, someone will throw more money at him.
