Khalil's 2007 road numbers doubled:

58 doubles
30 home runs
116 RBIs
108 Runs

He had a bad 2008, no doubt. But his 2003-2007 road SLG is over .500 !! For a good fielding SS, that is great. I have a feeling that Greene will have a monster year for the Cards.

My money is on Pedermo (unprotected in the rule 5...also it would add justification to the reyes trade) or gregerson (were the padres impressed by his winter league perfomance?) as the 2nd guy in addition to worrell

I like this trade a good deal. Everyone is complaining about not having any offensive production from the shortstop position. Now there is, with a lot of upside. Defensively, Greene is comparable to Izturis, averaging about 10 errors a season. His Petco figures are abysmal... but that park is a Grand Canyon, last in the league for hitters ! Look at Greene's away stats...For his career, Greene is a .270 hitter AWAY compared to the Petco .225. Hitting at Busch should help Khalil somewhat. He projects to be, with the differences in ballparks according to my figuring, about 30-40 points better in batting average...In fact, this is what I came up with for a regular season with his favorable away stats and hitting in a more friendly hitting ballpark:

597 ABs - 157 hits - 36 2B - 2 3B- 24HR- 85 RBI- .263 average.

With this being a "walk" year, and being motivated by that and proving the Padres wrong, he should top his career average of .248. He did hit .273 one year. I think that this young man will do well in St. Louis, and it is a good move. Bill James projects him for nearly 20 HR with still being in a San Diego uniform... what is not to like ?

If you had to rank them though how would it shake out? One of them has to be third ;) in the end though I agree it is early to peg him in the same realm as Motte/Perez and above that of Salas, etc. We need more time watching and reading about them.

Todd/14 - Perez and Motte are the top two. After that there's a cluster of second tier guys (Salas, Samuel, Gregerson, Worrell, etc) who all have good (not great) numbers closer to the majors.

Maybe it's just ignorance on my part -- I haven't seen Reifer in action -- but it seems awfully early to label him the #3 relief prospect.

Hugo/8 - No, No and Maybe. The main problem I have is a) I haven't seen substantial video of Reifer, b) he spent the whole season in Batavia and c) he's already pigeon holed as a reliever. I'm just not prepared to pass over people like Worrell, Gregerson, Salas or Samuel for a guy in short season that I've never seen whose numbers were very good but not otherworldly.

Apparently Mozeliak was on the Morning Grind in STL and he said that the reports of the deal were "not true". I didn't hear it, but I was told that from someone who did. They should have the audio up soon (if not already).

I'd much rather go for Escobar than Greene; Greene has too many questions and he will only bring us back to the same question next year: who will be our shortstop? If Greene doesn't play well, we won't offer him a contract. If he plays well, someone will throw more money at him. I don't think Kozma will be ready and I don't see Tyler Greene as an everyday player.

Az - who would you say are our top three relievers in the system? Some people don't see Jess Todd as starting in the big leagues - are you counting him as a reliever. Surely not Lynn or Mortensen - I think they profile as starters. Garcia could end up in the bullpen, but I think that's a worst case scenario.

What I like about Reifer is that all reports seem to say he throws really hard...that's a good start. I've seen guys improve their control (Randy Johnson), but I don't know that I've ever seen anyone learn how to throw hard.
