First off, don’t miss the voting below as well as the Tyler Henley Q&A (a must read).

KLaw came out with his top 100 today.  The Cardinals come in with Rasmus (12), Wallace (19), Jones (50) and Perez (80).  Feel free to discuss.

For the record, I would Rank Rasmus ahead of Snider, Anderson and Beckham because of defense, defense and an overate.

I not a huge fan of how high a lot of the 2008 draftees are ranked but it’s definitely a KLaw list with favs like Anderson near the top and Smoak over Alvarez (who comes in at 38).

The Walrus over Alvarez and Alonso will get some people talking, to be sure. I like it, of course.

  3. Kazahkstanny Danny says:

Is it wrong that I stilll wish they had drafted Aaron Hicks instead of Wallace?

  4. Chris says:

Alvarez at 38 was the shocker to me. KG and Callis mention him as a top-5 guy.

More proof Law marches to his own drumbeat. Not that it’s a bad thing . . .

  5. I like that Law sticks with his own assessement…and I love seeing Wallace so high. That looks like a brilliant pick. The way our system has climbed is a thing of beauty.

    Top 10 Cardinals here

    That is an interesting list.

I’m on the Jones bandwagon but I’m very surprised to see him ranked where he is. KLaw has always liked tools guys (Desmond Jennings @ 25 shows this) so I assume that justifies the Jones ranking. Where was Austin Jackson ranked?

I love that Sickels and Law are both high on Jay. Our glut of OFs is really going to pay off in the next few years. I hope we can see Jay and Barton starting at AAA. We might see Craig in that OF as well. Who else do we have in line for AAA OF?

    • Wade says:

Hate to say it, but I have a feeling Rasmus starts the year in that OF.

      • Liam says:

I think they’ll wait long enough to push back his arbitration by a year, then he’ll be the everyday RF and leadoff man.

Here’s hoping Skip’s bat starts out hot like it did last Spring.

        • lfulk says:

Wouldn’t they be better off with Rasmus in center, Ludwick in right, and Schumaker/Ankiel in left? I see where you coming from with Schumaker in center…but that moves Ludwick to left. I’d prefer just to keep Rasmus where he’s best; center field.

        • Liam says:

I’m thinking Ankiel in center, Lud in left, Razz in right, and Skip on another team.

prospect list is awesome. yes i agree rasmus is too low and also think wallace is too high. i would take rasmus over snider all day. snider is a dh in the making. rasmsus is a five tool player. i know hanson is ranked #9 but from what ive heard hes a sure fire #2 with legit ace stuff. this guy will be great. as for wallace, i just think defense isnt being considered but he definitely projects to hit a lot and soon. carlos santana at #13? i dont think so. these guys that come from absolutely nowhere dont do it for me.

as for the cardinals prospects cant like to see anderson at #9. we need to trade him. also motte at #7 seems a little low. he may only have one pitch and he also may have came from nowhere but thats one heck of a pitch. its not like hitters can watch tape on him and magically speed up their bats. i dont want to get back to the perez/motte discussion but all motte has to do is learn another pitch. that has to be easier than learning to throw harder. and with daryl jones at #3 maybe we can trade him. how many outfielders do we need? where will he play? assuming ankiel is gone after this year or sooner(which is definitely not certain) we have ludwick for 3 years, rasmus for at least 6, skip for 4(i think), duncan for 3, mather for 5 , barton for 5, jones for at least 6, and guys like jay and henley. how about a trade john. im not going to complain about our cheap owners like some but get off your hands and make a trade. we need long term lefthanded pitchers, 2b, and ss.

Glaus out for 12 weeks with shoulder surgery. Bring on the walrus!

    • erik says:

12 weeks from now I’m told, which means he’ll only miss two weeks. no reason to start his service time that soon, unless he’s ready to take the job full-time.

  11. Hombrej says:

I don’t think many trades will happen until some of these high profile OFs sign somewhere. Dunn, Abreu, Manny still out there…

Mo is being patient. He can’t set the market.

    • joel says:

i agree with u. u r right the market needs to be set. im probably getting jumpy because its january but the slow market for players should certainly be considered. i see our system as being really good but with a trade or two could be great. we have high end talent and depth virtually everywhere. we need a middle infielder who can take over in 2010 and is cheap for at least a few years. we will have to pay for the other middle infielder but if we dont get a young guy we will need to pay for both. we easily have the best young outfielders around so once the market is set i hope he can pull something off.

  12. joel says:

it looks like we will be getting a long look at wallace in the spring.

  13. themop10 says:

I am guessing we see thurston, freese, or long shot Mather starting at 3rd. I agree no reason to start Wallace’s service time right now

Law was on 1380 this afternoon w/ Bernie… Extremely high on Samuel and Lynn (in my opinion) and liked Jay more than most folks (besides myself).

I don’t think he mentioned Jones, though (I might have missed it if he did), which I thought was odd.

    • azruavatar says:

I’m gonna try and recap some of that conversation this weekend if I have time. It was interesting (besides the part where Strauss exposed his prospect venom) and KLaw is always very blunt and honest in his opinions.

    • Chris says:

I was also surprised he didn’t mention Jones, considering he had him ranked #50 overall, I wish he would’ve been asked.

I like to see other people high on Lynn, I think he gets the short end of the stick because he doesn’t throw 95, I really like him. His pitches complement each other very well, and his motion is easy and repeatable, there is no change in his delivery from pitch to pitch. That’s a recipe for success, and I think he’s going to jump in the rankings this season.

One surprise for me, Law was very high on Mitch Boggs last season. He had him in his overall top 100. This season, after a nice showing at AAA and some flashes in the big leagues, he drops out of the Cardinals’ top 10? I’m not a huge Boggs fan, but Law was high on him and I’m just wondering what caused his stock to drop for Law so much. It seemed others were somewhat encouraged by his performance (i.e. BA ranking him in PCL top 20, etc..)
