Nice to have some legitimate options here....debating Freese vs. Mather, without even having dip into Craig or (dare I say) Wallace.

None of these guys may turn out to be effective this year, but they at least offer a reasonable shot. Pretty nice.

Now let's hope the guy to their left stays healthy.....

Joe Mather as an athletic, sober, and cost-controlled version of Scott Spiezio is a nice pick-up for the organization. Now can he switch-hit?

@ Joe - Ludwick shouldn't require a long term deal. He's under team control for a couple more seasons I believe, and we could just go year to year with him if we wanted to do it that way.

The short-sighted view by the team would be to distribute PT based on who might be most productive at 3B for 6 weeks. The more important question is to find a young 3B for next season and beyond. The Cards are going to have to give either Ank or Ludy a fat long-term deal. Perhaps also one for K. Greene. Plugging a cost controlled player at 3B is the way to clear payroll to do it.

Do the Cards believe Joey Bombs has the skill set to be at least a league average defender at 3B? If not, I really think the smart move is to go with Freeze and see if he can hit at the MLB level. At the moment, the point might be moot as Freeze apparently is not ready to play due to the car accident. I hope he heals quickly so the team gets a chance to test drive him at 3B.
