Over at BtB, Harry took an in-depth look at Adam Ottavino thru the lense of Pitch F/x.  Nice to see Ottavino go out and pitch quite well against a talented Venezuelan Team.

I was able to watch that game against Venezuela. I now understand exactly why Ottavino has stalled a bit.

Just watching him throw and the movement he has on his fastballs is really great. It is obvious that he could be a pretty good pitcher and the reason he was drafted so high.

On the other hand when he gets ahead in the count he rears back and chucks up fastballs and sliders at 96 mph but has no control. He sees the K and goes for it. When he was sitting around 92 he was great. If he could back off a few mph and gain control that way i think he could really turn it around this year.

I thought that the reason why Ottavino got roughed up last year was that his pitches sucked, but they dont. He just over throws.
