No big news as we head into the weekend. It was an intrasquad scrimmage day so we’ll get straight to the results.

Memphis 3, Springfield 5

  • Shaun Garceau and Ryan Bird each tossed 3 innings. They walked 5 batters combined and each allowed 1 ER.
  • Kristiam Linares tossed an inning allowing a hit and striking out a batter.
  • Eduardo Sanchez walked 3 batters in .2 IP with 2 ER.
  • The hitting for the “Memphis” team was better than the pitching. Brian Barton was 3-for-3 with a double, triple and a walk. BP did an interview of Barton (free) if you like bland questions with little followup.
  • Joe Mather was 1-for-3.
  • Jason LaStache was 1-for-2 with a double.
  • Mark Shorey was 1-for-3.
  • Blake Hawksworth breezed through 3 innings but ran into some trouble in the fourth. His final line of 3.1IP included 3 BBs, 3 hits and 2 Ks.
  • Matthew Scherer tossed 2 innings allowing 3 ER. The Cardinals might be smart to try and pass him through waivers now. There’s no reason that he needs to be on the 40-man and he’d almost certainly pass through waivers right now.
  • Sam Freeman tossed 2 innings allowing 1 hit, 1 BB and striking out 1 batter.
  • Tyler Greene was 3-for-4 with 3 doubles.
  • Antonio DeJesus tripled and “made a tough catch in foul territory at the fence”.
  • Tony Cruz doubled and walked.
  • Brett Wallace was 1-for-3.

Palm Beach 4, Quad Cities 2

  • Scott McGregor tossed 4 scoreless frames allowing just 3 baserunners (2 hits, 1BB).
  • LaCurtis Mayes threw 2 perfect innings striking out 5.
  • Rough outing for Andres Rosales who allowed 2 ER on 2 hits in 1 inning striking out 1.
  • Pete Kozma doubled and had a sacrifice fly.
  • Paul Vasquez was 1-for-1 with a double and a walk.
  • Curt Smith was 1-for-3. He had a nice year last year and made the Netherlands squad for the WBC. That said, he’s undersized for a 1B and doesn’t profile with the normal power or physical attributes. The Cardinals haven’t had much success with the 1B draftees recently (Mike Ferris, Mark Hamilton) so we’ll have to see how Smith does this year.
  • Tommy Pham was 1-for-2 with a walk. He had the game winning RBI.
  • Adron Chambers walked and recorded a bunt single.
  • Francisco Rivera had a squeeze bunt for an RBI. No word on if it was the suicide variety.
  • Shane Peterson walked twice and singled.
  • Reynier Gonzalez threw 4 scoreless frames allowing just 3 hits.
  • Joel Pichardo walked 4 in 2 inings. 2 BBs and 1 hit as he captained the starship Enterprise. (Am I the only one that thinks of Jen Luc when they see this pitcher’s name?)
  • Senger Peralta gave up 2 hits and a walk for 2 ER over an inning.
  • Niko fans. . . wait for it. . . 2-for-2 with a walk.
  • Osvaldo Morales had a 2-run double.
  • Jose Garcia doubled for the only other QC hit. Stingy Palm Beach pitchers today.

Keep on hittin’ Niko. It would be nice to know what his glove looks like.

How do you luck out on the intrasquad day?

I’ve seen Niko’s glove, and it’s very nice. One of those two tone jobs, brown and black leather, nice webbing. I think it might have been a Mizuno.

I sent you an e-mail. If I launch it in IE I see the endif problem. I don’t know if you’ve seen this before, but I’ll try and poke around a bit.

yeah, no cut and pasting with Word, HL!! Shame shame. All their formatting throws things for a loop.

Then how am I supposed to do the DFRs? I can’t type it in WordPress because their box has horrible formatting setups and using Notepad creates terrible hard returns where they don’t belong.

I copied and pasted unformatted text, so I don’t know why WordPress added formatting to it.

Ok, I went all day without mentioning it.

For posterity sake, azru…check that first bullet point.

FWIW, I use Opera as my browser. I haven’t had an endif problem. Of course, that is not a good enough reason to try Opera out, but if you would like an alternative to IE, Firefox, or Safari, try it out. I love it! Also, I use it on a Mac, so I guess I cannot vouch for its effectiveness on a PC.

And, as it goes without saying almost, keep up the great work guys!

I’ve never had an issue with their formatting setup — what is it that bothers you about it?

I’m having (had) the same problems (using i.e.).

Also, the problem i had a awhile back with the post floating to the right side and overlapping the right-side bar is happening again. This seems to be a problem that comes and goes at random. No rhyme or reason to it.

And i don’t want to sound rude so don’t take it the wrong way… but please don’t suggest that i switch browsers because i’m not going to switch for one website.
