2010 Top 5 Prospects: 1. Brett Wallace 2. Daryl Jones 3. 1st rd. pick 4. Jon Jay 5. Niko Vasquez

Jeff Roman
Cardinal Rookie of the Year: Freese – Because he is going to play every day at the start of the season to cement his place in the team.
Minor League Player of the Year: Curt Smith – He is hot in the spring and he will continue to swing a hot bat.
Minor League Pitcher of the Year: Adam Ottavino – He will take his success with team Italy and finally live up to his potential.
Breakout Hitter: D’Marcus Ingram – Just like Daryl Jones in 2008, this toolsy hitter will put it all together.
Breakout Pitcher: Sam Freeman – He’ll make the jump all the way up to AAA by the end of the year with fabulous numbers.
Top 5 Prospects will be…: Brett Wallace, Daryl Jones, Bryan Anderson, Peter Kozma, Adam Ottavino
This Year I’m Most Excited to See: (I’m going to cheat here) I’m most excited to watch Jason Motte and his 100 MPH fastball every day with the big club. I’m also most excited to follow (watch) Roberto De La Cruz and see how he does in pro ball this year as he’s the Cards biggest splash in Central America/South America and the Caribbean. The Cardinals success in this region will have a huge impact on how well their farm club is stocked over the next 5 years.

roarke

Minor League POY – Brett Wallace (again, obvious, but I really think he’s gong to be a monster)
Minor League PiOY – Clayton Mortensen
Breakout Hitter – Aaron Luna
Breakout Pitcher – Anthony Ferrara
1st Round Pick – Brooks Raley, lhp, Texas A&M (pretty random – I don’t have any logic behind this guess)

Breakout Hitter: Tommy Pham
Breakout Pitcher: Deryk Hooker
2010 Top 5 Prospects will be…Brett Wallace, Daryl Jones, Jess Todd, Jamie Garcia, Niko Vasquez

Breakout Hitter: Tommy Pham
Breakout Pitcher: Thomas Eager
1st round pick: Mike Leake, rhp, Arizona State.
2010 Top 5 Prospects will be… Wallace, Jones, Reifer, Kozma, Mortensen
This season I am most excited to see: What the Cardinals do in the June draft. While the system does have more depth, it has very little impact talent especially on the pitching side.
Alex Fritz
Cardinal Rookie of the Year: Jason Motte
Minor League Player of the Year: Jon Jay
Minor League Pitcher of the Year: Mitchell Boggs
Breakout Hitter: Wallace (yes, he pretty much has already broke out, but I expect some unrealistic video game numbers)
Breakout Pitcher: Salas
2010 Top 5 Prospects will be… Jones, Jay, Wallace, Craig, Anderson
This season I am most excited to see: Aside from The Colby Rasmus Era, the AAA outfield is really exciting.

I think Kozma ends up ahead of Niko. I don’t think Niko plays SS in the major leagues. Kozma’s glove is currently pretty far ahead of Niko’s by all accounts.
I’m excited about the draft, too.
Cardinal Rookie of the Year: Jess Todd (He is going to be closing by the end of the year…)
Minor League Player of the Year: Brett Wallace
Minor League Pitcher of the Year: Adam Ottavino
2009 1st round pick: Aaron Crow (He might drop–at this point who knows…)
Breakout Hitter: Tony Cruz (I think he has more of a stick than he showed last year-premium position.)
Breakout Pitcher: Adam Ottavino
2010 Top 5 Prospects: 1. Brett Wallace 2. Daryl Jones 3. Clay Mortenson 4. Aaron Crow 5. Adam Ottavino
This year I’m most excited to see…Pete Kozma make AA (Derrick May this Pete. Pete this is Coach, learn to hit for a little pop.)
the two guys i am really looking forward to watching this year are adam ottavino and shane peterson. i want to see if ottavino can build on his performance in the WBC and if peterson can establish himself as a legit hitter with power.
the obvious guys to watch are wallace and jones, but i hope we know what we get from those guys.
CRotY: Raz
MLPotY: Walrus, the beginning of a beautiful friendship
MLPiotY: Jess Todd
2009 1st round pick: No idea, and almost don’t care. Other than the extreme top — and sorry, we’re not getting Strasburg — this is viewed as a decidedly weak crop. Given the low draft slot, we shouldn’t expect much from it.
Breakout Hitter: Tony Cruz
Breakout Pitcher: Fernando Salas
2010 Top 5 Prospects: 1. Brett Wallace (huge gap, this guy could be really special) 2. Daryl Jones 3. Jaime Garcia 4. Jess Todd 5. Bryan Anderson
This year I’m most excited to see… Whether Walrus can play defense well enough at the higher levels to stick at 3B. If he can, 2010 could be a VERY interesting season. (Brett, if you’re reading this, please don’t be offended by the nickname; it’s an indication that you’re already held in tremendously high esteem by the fans.)
Incidentally, I’ve found it interesting how many credible yet different answers are showing up here. With monster quality at the top (Walrus, DJ) and remarkable depth in credible prospects, this system has become something to be excited about.
sad news in the baseball world today. those that follow the minors and the draft surely know of nick adenhart, and those who regularly attend springfield games have probably seen him pitch. unfortunately it sounds like he was killed in an auto accident on his way home from his start last night. thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and teammates.
sad day indeed. he had an amazing run here in Cedar Rapids when he was in Low A ball.
Cardinal Rookie of the Year: Colby Rasmus
Minor League Player of the Year: Brett Wallace
Minor League Pitcher of the Year: Adam Reifer
Breakout Hitter: Pete Kozma
Breakout Pitcher: Adam Ottavino

This season I am most excited to see: A full season of Rasmus, Freese, and Motte at the ML level
As Cardinal fans we know all too well what the Angels and even their fan base must be going through. God rest your soul, Nick, and heckuva game yesterday.
Cards ROY – C Rasmus
POY – D Jones
PiOY – L Lynn
Breakout Hitter – J Edwards or T Pham
Breakout Pitcher – D Hooker
Top 5 – Wallace, Jones, Kozma, #1, Jay
Most excited to see – Kozma putting the SS of the future debate to rest.
Cardinal Rookie of the Year: Colby Rasmus
Minor League Player of the Year: Brett Wallace
Minor League Pitcher of the Year: Adam Ottavino
Breakout Hitter: Pete Kozma
Breakout Pitcher: David Kopp
2009 Top Draft Pick: Robbie Shields
2010 Top 5 Prospects will be… Wallace, Jones, Kozma, Riefer, Garcia
This season I am most excited to see: The young Caribbean players starting to break into full-season ball.
Cardinal ROY: Freese
Minor league POY: Allen Craig (but noone will care)
Minor league Pitcher of the year: Walters (but noone will care)
Breakout hitter: Pham
Breakout pitcher: Mark Diapoules (Ottavino’s my #2)
Draft Pick: I don’t know the name of a single amateur baseball player and won’t until I read who the Cardinals draft.
Top five: 1. Jones 2. Ottavino 3. Kozma 4. Wallace 5. Reifer
Most excited to see: How our recent Caribbean signees do.
Cardinal Rookie of the Year: Colby Rasmus
Minor League Player of the Year: Brett Wallace
Minor League Pitcher of the Year: Fernando Salas
Breakout Hitter: Daniel Descalso
Breakout Pitcher: Gary Daley
2009 Top Draft Pick: No idea
2010 Top 5 Prospects will be… Wallace, Kozma, Garcia, Salas, #1 2009 pick
This season I am most excited to see: Kozma’s second half power surge in Springfield
I take great pride in being higher on Jon Jay than anyone else.
Good stuff guys.
No mention of Tyler Greene and where?
Have we given up on this guy?
Disappointing news…Deryk Hooker was just suspended 50 games for testing positive for drug of abuse under the sport’s minor league program.
I was hoping for a big year from him–hopefully he can rebound from this when returns in June.
Sad indeed, many people had hooker pegged for a good season this year but it looks like he wont be back for a while.
Thats pretty disappointing.
SHANE PETERSON, SHANE PETERSON, SHANE PETERSON….REMEMBER IT.
ML ROY: Chris Perez
MiL POY: Niko Vasquez
MiL PiOY: PJ Walters
Breakout Hitter: Steven Hill
Breakout Pitcher: Justin Fiske
1st rd pick: austin maddox (and the FO uses their “dry powder” to sign him)
Top 5: Walrus, D. Jones, maddox, J. Garcia, Kozma
Most excited to see:
Springfield Cards game is on CW11 here in the Springfield area. Can’t wait to see Wallace and Jones start of the season with a boom. The roughriders also feature Justin Smoak who should be fun to watch. Just wish it was in HD.
I’d love to get my hands on a tape of this if possible. Take note you Springfielders.
Same here. I was hoping putting up that schedule would lead to getting some copies but apparently not.
now for my picks:
Cardinal Rookie of the Year: Jason Motte
Minor League Player of the Year: Brett Wallace
Minor League Pitcher of the Year: P.J. Walters
2009 1st round pick: Mike Leake, RHP, Arizona St.
Breakout Hitter: Daniel Descalso
Breakout Pitcher: Arquimedes Nieto
2010 Top 5 Prospects will be…Brett Wallace, Daryl Jones, Roberto de La Cruz, Jamie Garcia, Jess Todd
Cardinal Rookie of the Year: Colby Rasmus
Minor League Player of the Year: Brett Wallace
Minor League Pitcher of the Year: Adam Ottavino
2009 1st round pick: not a clue
Breakout Hitter: Tommy Pham
Breakout Pitcher: Anthony Ferrara
2010 Top 5 Prospects will be…Brett Wallace, Daryl Jones, Ottavino, Todd, Reifer
This year I’m most excited to see: brett wallace destroy the ball , literally, destroy the cover off the ball and ottavino’s continued progress..could be the #1 starting pitching prospect if he gets it all together this year
Alex, hard to see Salas breaking out any more than he did last year!
Real Baseball Intelligence (RBI), a leading resource in the evaluation of amateur baseball talent and draft coverage, has ranked the Top 200 prospects in the 2009 MLB Draft and offers dozens of scouting reports (with video) at withthefirstpick.net
Game was delayed in springfield because of rain and 70 MPH winds. But wallace went deep with 4 RBI’s and jones doubled in the limited action.
After Wallace’s performance last night (4/5, 2 hr’s, 6 RBI’s) would any of you like to re-think your minor league player of the year?? Or are you assuming he’ll be up in the majors too long to win the award?
Cardinals Minor Leaguer of the Year: Colby Rasmus
Player of the Year: Brett Wallace
Pitcher of the Year: Lance Lynn
1st Round Pick: Aaron Crow
Breakout Hitter: Daniel Descalso
Breakout Pitcher: Adam Ottavino
Top 5 Prospects: 1. Wallace 2. Jones 3. Crow 4. Anderson 5. Ottavino
Most Excited to See: All of the Cardinals’ minor league affiliates (excluding DSL and VSL) make the playoffs for the respective league, as all teams will finish above .500 and win their divisions.
I picked Ottavino and Descalso last year as breakout hitters, but I was disappointed. Both showed promise towards the end of the year last year, so I’m hoping I was just a season too early on my predictions.
