Matt Baker, following in Kary Booher’s excellent Springfield Sports blogging shoes, has all the details of the minor league fall out from Brendan Ryan/Khalil Greene’s injuries:

  • Pete Kozma from Palm Beach to Springfield
  • Donovan Solano from Springfield to Memphis
  • Kyle Mura to the DL
  • Trey Hearne from bullpen to rotation
  • Marco Gonzalez demoted from Memphis to Springfield
  • Fernando Salas off the DL(?)

Should be interesting to see if Kozma sinks or swims at Springfield.

Should Niko be moved up to Palm Beach at this point, now?

Too much, too fast for Kozma. Don’t like it at all.

  3. Memphis25 says:

Brandon Yarbrough also listed as active and Shane Robinson 7-Day DL

  4. Wade says:

@ erik … don’t have a problem with it if they send him back down once ryan comes back and the fallout comes back to their normal positions in the org. maybe it gives his bat some confidence if they hit him in front of wallace … not that the bat has been the problem so far this year.

Brett Wallace and Petey Kozma on the same side of the infield. Yikes.

I’m with Erik on this one.

I think we should take a moment to comemmorate tyler’s first ml hit. Or “hit” if you prefer. Regardless it was a 2 run hit in what was at the time a close game.

And that’s what this is all about, right? Getting guys to the majors and watching them succeed? So hooray tyler!

    What’s wrong with sugar shane?

Was at the game last night in DC. Tyler hit the ball pretty well overall. The last one was obviously the best outcome, but I was pretty impressed with the bat. Has some good speed too – stealing third and hustling down the line on a grounder early in the game. Only thing I can remember that kind of upset me was what looked like a lazy toss to Skip on a potential double play. Don’t think they would have turned it anyway, but it looked a little lazy.

Haven’t seen him play before, so maybe these are things you already know, but I liked what I saw last night

I’m optimistic about Kozma heading to AA. Great opportunity for him.

Front office must have been reading the Porcello thread over at Cards Talk.

Next stop for Kozma: St. Louis!!!

Kozma’s hitting performance has been very similar to what Jones did at Palm Beach last year – with the notable exception of home run power. But similar K%, BB%, LD% and Jones had no trouble with the transition.
If the coaching staff thinks he can handle the jump, then I don’t see anything in his performance that would contradict that. Unless he goes on a tear over the next week, I do think he’ll be back in Palm Beach for the first half of the season though.

    Go Petey!

But please pack your glove this time.

  13. Warner is a great manager – a lot of people do well while they’re at Springfield. Hopefully he can handle Kozma in a way that doesn’t hurt his confidence. AA is a big jump but it isn’t like he’s too young to be there. Maybe being promoted will be good for his confidence.

Aww, thanks for the kind words.
