It’s back. Don’t phone a friend. Don’t use a Free Spin. Don’t try to block the square.
Did you think I'd give you a clue here that would actually add up?

Memphis will be Leaving Las Vegas tonight, so let’s get right to this so you all can get back to thinking about Elizabeth Shue.

Memphis 1, Las Vegas 3

  • Brendan Ryan was 0-for-3 in his rehab start. That’s 0-for-8 so far. Wonder if this will be one of those situations where a guy never makes it back because someone else is playing better?
  • Jon Jay was 2 for 4.
  • David Freese, Brian Anderson and Javier Brito (who!?!) were all 1-for-4.
  • Mark Shorey hit a HR which drove in the only run of the game.
  • Blake Hawksworth’s performance may or may not have been good. Who am I to judge? He went 7.2 innings, giving up 3 ERs on 5 hits. He had a healthy 7-to-1 K:BB ratio.
  • Charlie Manning wouldn’t even have existed if not for the solo hit he gave up in his only batter faced.
  • Matthew Scherer faced 5 batters, got 4 flyouts and 1 hit.

Springfield 2, Nwar Kansas 4

  • DJ Tools with a multi-hit night. 2-for-4 with an RBI.
  • Coo Coo Ca Choo, Steven Hill, and Daniel Descalso all were 2-for-5. Walrus and Descalso had a double.
  • Mark Hamilton was one better, 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI.
  • Tyler Henley, my favorite Eagle, was 2-for-3 with a double.
  • Ryan Kulik did not pick up a Quality Start. He gave up 4 runs in 5 innings. Of the 7 hits, 2 of them were HRs. He walked 2 and struckout 2.
  • Eddie Degerman’s 1 inning had a little bit of everything. A walk, a hit and a strikeout.
  • Pete Parise is lovely this time of year. His 2 innings saw a hit for each and they had to split a walk.

Palm Beach 2, Charlotte 0

  • Hey Yo, Adron Chambers drove in all of the teams 2 runs on a 1-for-3 day. He also stole a base.
  • Curt Smith knew I would be doing tonight’s DFR, so he went ahead and had himself a 2-for-3 day with a double.
  • Francisco Rivera scored the teams 2 runs, going 2 for 3 with a stolen base.
  • Nick Additon calculated that even though he had 2 runs to work with, pitching a 6 inning shutout was for the best. To reach a dividend of zero, he negated his 3 hits with 3 strikeouts.
  • Samuel Freeman continued to be nasty, picking up the hold with 2 innings of shutout ball. He struck out 1.
  • Adam Reifer toked took the save, striking out 2 of the 3 batters he faced.

Quad Cities 3, Peoria 7 (Game 1)

  • Brett Lilley scored 2 runs, going 1-for-3 with a walk.
  • Frederick Parejo was 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
  • Chris Swauger strutted his way for a double and a triple in his 3 at-bats, picking up 2 RBIs.
  • Roberto Espinoza was 2-for-3. He also stole a base. Trying hard to not make the Walker Texas Ranger reference.
  • Josh Wilson’s first start saw him give up 5 hits and strike out 5 in 5 innings. That all led to 3 runs on 2 HRs.
  • David Carpenter was ‘insert negative adjective here’ in his only inning. He gave up 4 runs on 3 hits and a walk. He had a strikeout and gave up a dinger as well.

Quad Cities 4, Peoria 1 (Game 2)

With Tyler Greene slapping some mean leather with the big league club, Brendan Ryan is kinda redundant until he starts hitting again. I feel bad for the guy. He’s a great defensive player in his own right but the slap hitter you know and all that. Although, Greene has made solid contact while with the big club and doesn’t have an OCD twitch. Not sure how Tony comes down on idiosyncrasies.

    Nick Addition!?

Hawksworth was solid — didn’t really give up much that was hit hard, there were a lot of bloopers tonight. It’s just that too many were bunched in the first inning. Manning threw one pitch — soft, low and away, and the hitter just hit a weak flare into left for a hit.

    • HL says:

That was his power. The greatest trick the Charlie Manning ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist. And like that, poof. He’s gone.

Seeing a 0 IP is always one of those amazing things in the boxscore you realize CAN exist but yet it still surprises you.

As erik reported (or “RT’ed”) on Twitter, after the games Chris Swauger was promoted to Palm Beach.

I’m guessing he will mostly DH, with Curt Smith at 1B, Shane Peterson at LF and Yo Adron in RF.

I’m gonna second Hawk’s outing as a very good one. Guess on the picture is Jon Bravo. I never take a break from thinking about Elizabeth Shue.

  5. arch support says:

I didn’t even knew Shue was still alive. That lady hasn’t done anything in years.

  6. ridgesee says:

show how old and out of touch I am. I didn’t even know who Elizabeth Shue was. Had to google her. Nice looking lady.

  7. Bob says:

Not only did 18-year-old CF Freddy Parejo have a hit in each game, he gunned down Josh Vitters at the plate. If the kid is anything other than overwhelmed by the Midwest League this year, it’ll be a big step in the right direction–and he has yet to whiff in 20 AB’s….

How about that Additon? Three straight outings of 6 shutout innings. And four hits allowed, total. Me likey.
