In the future, there will be robots that are strong enough to throw you across the room. They will do so many times while fighting you. It will hurt and they will break things. They will refrain, however, from attempting to kill you until a climactic moment. They will never simply punch your face in or rip out your throat despite their inhuman strength giving them the ability to do so. If you are reading this, you are the resistance.

Terminator Salvation – good action scenes, decent acting, decent plot, some small contrivances that you don’t want to think too much about. A solid ‘B’ movie of action flicks.

Craig goes boom. One of my favorite prospects goes toe-to-toe with Steve Hill. Brian Broderick has a very democratic outing. The River Bandits take on . . . an apple?

It’s all in your DFR.

Memphis 6, Tacoma 10

  • Shane Robinson was 2-for-5 with a double and 4 RBIs.
  • Jon Jay was 2-for-3 with a walk.
  • Allen Craig was 2-for-5 with his 4th HR of the season. Hopefully, this is the start of big things for Craig. Also, as an aside, I’m always perplexed by names that are really two first names. They never roll off the tongue properly, imho.
  • Donovan Solano was 2-for-4.
  • Casey Rowlett went 1-for-2 with a pair of walks.
  • PJ Walters, fresh off of his 114 pitch complete game, got lit up in 3.1 innings. He allowed 10 hits for 7 runs (6 earned). He walked 1 and struck out 3. In fairness, there’s probably 3-4 major league caliber hitters on the Tacoma team (Clement, Shelton, Saunders and Morse). None of those guys are the next Albert Pujols but they’re not a crappy AAA team either. You’d still hope for a better outing that this from Walters.
  • Fernando Salas retired 5 batters allowing 1 hit and striking out 2. Of the AAA bullpen, he’s the reliever I like the best to have an extended major league career in middle relief. He’s a control artist with an average breaking ball coming back from a finger injury. He’ll never be a setup type reliever but if you’re looking for a cheap alternative to Brad Thompson, you could do worse than Salas.

Springfield 11, Tulsa 4

  • Daryl Jones was 2-for-4 with a double, a triple and a walk. He’s hitting .310/.399/.444 on the season. He’s got great range as an outfielder coupled with a so-so arm. I’m excited to see how he does in AAA. He’s obviously got the hang of AA.
  • Tony Cruz was 4-for-5 with a double playing 3B.
  • Daniel Descalso was 2-for-3 with a pair of walks.
  • Steven Hill was 2-for-5 with a HR.
  • Tyler Henley, the unnamed favorite prospect in the lead in, went deep.
  • Tyler Herron pitched a solid game. He went 7 strong innings allowing just 2 hits and 4 walks against 2 strikeouts. He was charged with no earned runs though Tulsa racked up 3 unearned runs during his 7 IP. Herron recorded 13 of 19 outs on the ground.
  • Joe Williams tossed the final 2 innings allowing 3 hits including a solo shot.

Palm Beach 1, Jupiter 0

  • Colt Sedbrook was 1-for-3 with a double. He was scored the only run on Shane Peterson‘s sac fly in the 4th.
  • Brian Broderick struck out just 2 batters in his 6 innings. Not quite as democratic as Herron but we’ll take it. He allowed 5 hits and walked 1.
  • Adam Reifer pitched a scoreless inning but walked 2.
  • Eduardo Sanchez may have unseated Reifer as the closer picking up his 3rd save. He allowed 1 hit and struck out 1.

Quad Cities 9, Fort Wayne 6

  • Travis Mitchell had a double and 2 walks in 4 trips to the plate.
  • Over his last 10 games he’s batting a paltry .154 after an 0-for-4 showing. Who is he? Niko Vasquez. Someone get him a slump buster (non-alcoholic).
  • Gary Daley allowed 7 hits in 4 innings of work. He struck out 5 and walked 2. His ERA stands at 7.81.
  • Josh Wilson’s un-retirement isn’t going so well. He allowed 4 runs in 3 innings including 2 HRs.
  • David Carpenter picked up his 2nd save with 2 scoreless innings.

Henley not only “went deep”; he hit a grand slam.

That apple has a sinister look on his face. I’d like to see the River Bandit raccoon bite it off.

DJ Tools most often gets compared to Desmond Jennings with upside of Carl Crawford … Is that something we’d be able to live with out of our LF? If Rasmus’ power doesn’t fully develop, I almost think ‘no’ … unless the big club starts to steal more bases (warning: someone who hasn’t checked the stats to see how many the big club has and thinks Pujols may have half of them). If the Razzle’s power does, I say ‘yes’.

I hope for great things from DJ, but if you look at the “power” positions we would only have +s at 1B and RF (if we keep Lud). I haven’t heard any reports of Wallace having + power (high average, 25ish HRs), Maybe we can live w/o the + power in LF if we have the + power in CF.

Jon Edwards went on the DL for the River Bandits and yes I would say Sanchez is probably the new closer for Palm Beach.

  5. southeast redbird says:

Sanchez won’t close at PB, he’s on his way to Springfield.

  6. Marc Rappaport says:

Good luck to my nephew David Kopp as he moves up to Springfield.

  7. Neil T. says:

Travis Mitchell is off to a nice start at Quad Cities – which, I confess, surprises me. In his previous seasons he’s become known as an excellent fielder but hasn’t hit much. Perhaps he’s turning the corner.

  8. Red Blazer says:

Tony Cruz back at 3b? Is this the first game he has played at 3B this year? Maybe he could plug a hole for us with the big boys?

  9. tom s. says:

I look forward to the arrival of my colby rasmus jersey, for I know it is the only thing that will keep me safe in the coming robot apocalypse.

  10. Vallon says:

    Kopp got promoted?

  11. Kilgore says:

Descalso just keeps hitting at Springfield. Will there be a promotion soon and is he the best 2B prospect in the system? Also how does he project long-term? Being a 3rd round pick the Cards have to think there is some upside there.

  12. Memphis25 says:

Hot hitting first baseman keep getting hurt at Springfield, First Andrew Brown now Mark Hamilton.

  13. VolsnCards5 says:

i would consider 25 homers with a ton of doubles(which is how wallace projects) to be plus power

  14. Redbird says:

    Matt Arburr went to Springfield?
