In the first case, we had to surmount the sensation of an unreal immobility in space, and to admit a motion we could not perceive of by sense. In the present case, it is as essential to surmount a consciousness of an unreal freedom and to recognise a dependence not perceived by our senses.

We had a 1 hitter and a whole lotta offense. Let’s get rollin’. Go CAVS!

Memphis 8, Portland 7

  • Tyler Greene, patiently waiting by the phone, was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a walk.
  • Coo Coo Ca Choo was 1-for-5 with a double and a run scored.
  • Allen Craig, our 3B who is playing anything but, went deep twice.
  • Jon Jay got in on the big comeback 7th inning with a 2 run HR, going 2-for-5.
  • Jarrett Hoffpauir was 3-for-4 with a HR, driving in 2.
  • Mitchell Boggs is struggling all kinds of ways now. In his 5 innings, he gave up 7 hits and 5 ERs. He only struck out one batter, walked 2 and most of his damage came off the 3 HRs he was tagged for.
  • Kat Maekawa picked up the win with 1.2 innings scoreless.
  • Josh Kinney struggled in his 0.2 IP with a HR and 3 hits. He struck out 2.
  • Royce Ring was perfect in his 0.2.
  • The Destroyer gave up an unearned run, struck out 1 and picked up the save.

Springfield 10, San Antonio 6

  • Daniel Descalso was 2-for-5 with a HR and 2 runs scored.
  • Tyler Henley, my favorite Eagle, went 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored and a double.
  • Tony Cruz, have yourself a day. 4-for-5 with 4 RBIs on a double and a HR.
  • James Rapoport drove in 3, with a double going 3-for-5.
  • Pete Kozma was 0-for-5 with an RBI.
  • Lance Lynn was effective over his 5 innings, striking out 5 and giving up 2 ER. They hit him 7 times and walked once.
  • Eduardo Sanchez had a rough 0.2 innings. He walked 2 batters and hit another one, not to mention threw a wild pitch for 3 ERs.
  • Brandon Dickson finished the inning with 2 hits, a walk and an earned run of his own.
  • Pete Parise had a hit and 2 strikeouts in his 1 IP.
  • Tyler Norrick, not one for creativity, did the exact same thing.
  • Fransisco Samuel finished the game off with a strikeout in an inning.

Palm Beach 6, Daytona 0

  • Shane Peterson was 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored.
  • Chris Swauger hit a triple and drove in a run.
  • Francisco Rivera hit a double and drove in 3 runs.
  • Domnits are Forever Bolivar was 2-for-3 with a double.
  • Palm Beach pitching combined for only 1 hit.
  • Scott Gorgen gave up that 1 hit, but we’ll forgive him. He threw 7 innings of shutout ball with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts.
  • Samuel Freeman threw an perfect inning with 2 strikeouts while Casey Mulligan wanted to do that inning over and did the exact same thing.

Quad Cities 5, West Michigan (well, at least it is a cardinal direction) 8

  • Brett Lilley was 2-for-5.
  • Charles Cutler was 2-for-4 with 2 doubles and an RBI.
  • Paul Cruz was 2-for-4.
  • Alex Castellanos, have yourself a day. 3-for-4 with a double and a homerun. Drove in 2 and we’ll ignore that caught stealing.
  • Brett Zawacki kinda got whacki’d around the yard. He gave up 7 hits in 3 innings, leading to 4 runs (2 ER). He struckout 2.
  • Joel Pichardo continues the string of guys just up at QC with 2 innings of 2 hit ball. He gave up a run and struckout 2.
  • The Mayor Gary Daley struggled with 3 ERs in 2 innings. He walked 1 and had a nice 4:4 Hit to Strikeout ratio.
  • Jason Buursma pitched an inning and gave up a hit.

I’ll never understand how minor league games can start at 10 am in the middle of the week. I understand travel and all but how do they get any fans at that early hour? If I was a teacher in the area, we’d take field trips for those games. Do they serve hotdogs at 10 am? What happens first: The last inning of a 10am game or red baron’s Wednesday VEB post?

Descalso…is he going to be a top 10 future redbird by seasons end? Reviewing the FR top 20, I don’t see too many others standing in his way. Wallace, Jones, Anderson, Garcia, Lynn, Mortenson, Todd….Descalso?

  2. tom s. says:

Tomm – all the other ones will be w/ the big club.

Too soon to start the mulligan to springfield bandwagon?

8-7? What happened to the portland/memphis pitchers’ duel?

Last – domnits are forever? Nice. “Domnit, janet!” Maybe?

  3. Tomm says:

Thats what I meant…they’ll either be with the big club OR Descalso will have leaped over them

  4. Redbird says:

Word is K Greene is going on the DL when Luddy is activated. Would be nice though for T Greene to be back at STL.

  5. theredbaaron says:

Man, I sure am getting picked on an awful lot lately. First the whole choose your own adventure thing, now a shot at my renaissance craftsman inability to get something in early. Tough to be the Baron these days.

However, that’s alright, because Dan Descalso and the newly promoted David Kopp both know I loved them long before anyone else, and they’ve got my back. So there.

10/11 AM starts are somewhat common on Wednesdays during the school year. You sell the heck out of it as field trip day, and Wednesday night is usually a slow night for attendance anyway.

We had almost 10k in Memphis for the last 11:00 game — most of the outfield seats were full of schoolkids.

I just hit an 11AM start at Erie (Detroit’s AA team) a few weeks ago on a Wed. It was great. I was a chaperone for my daughter’s field trip. The place was packed with other schools and regulars. It’s a good promotion as the school year comes to a close.

Erie also does $1 nights on Mondays. Get in for a buck and grab a hotdog and a soda for a buck each. Those fill up nicely also.

How about “Domnit Jim, I’m a doctor!”

  9. k says:

Baseball game field trip!!? That would have been nice. Sure beats milk farm.

Allen Craig is a beast through the last two series. He’s hitting .350 in the last 10 games with 3 doubles & 3 HRs. I approve.

  11. jjray says:

I’m on the Allen Craig wagon. With Big Joe and Dr. Freese on the shelf, the Cards have needed a big right handed bat as a spare corner infielder, pinch hitter. It doesn’t appear the Cards are going to pony up the prospects / money for DeRosa. Craig sits in Memphis staring them in the face … but could Tony part with one of his three grit boys (Barden, Ryan, Thursty)?

  12. bigchieftootiemontana says:

All I am saying is “Give Craig a Chance” !

  13. Red Blazer says:

Hopefully Tony can part with Thirsty Joe.

  14. Liam says:

Good to see Gorgen healthy and effective. Very good to see Buursma’s pitching. Now if only they can let him swing the bat a little…

  15. Travis says:

You won’t see Thurston or Ryan gone because they need Ryan to play SS and Thurston to spell Schu at 2B/defensive replacement. If anyone goes down it would be either Barden or Stavinoha and Craig would be asked to play in the OF as much as 3B.

10 AM starts are popular here(Tulsa) during the summer as a “business man’s lunch”. They get quite a crown, even after school is out for the year. They have about 4-5 per year.

  16. Swirls AEPi says:

Barden can play 2B as well defensively as Thurston, if not better, and he’s a righty. Platooning Schu and Thurston is pointless since they’re both lefties.

Barden could play SS in lieu of Ryan as well. Ryan’s faster and better defensively, but Barden is a better hitter.

All in all, it’s a wash between the three players – they’re all replacement level IF.

  17. reid gohlke says:

great to see ring throwing well. what next???
