Interesting. I know that Jenkins and Storen went to DC on Thursday. Word has it that Storen had an unbelievable change up and was the winner in that match up.

Should be interesting to see what’s left for the Cards at #19 because 4 of the 6 slots before their pick are owned by teams that use stats and won’t let a great college performer (like Wallace) slip by them.

Chad James is still my favorite, but if he’s gone I’d be pleased with Matt Hobgood or Garrett Gould were there (assuming Gibson and Leake are gone).

I’m thinking Purke did something to Erik personally. I don’t see how he is the 19th best player in the draft. I personally have him as the 2nd best pitching prospect in the draft (I would have Scheppers 2nd but his command scares me a little).

Lets look at Purke:
sits 92-94
lefty
projectable
from erik’s link “it’s one of the best breaking balls in this year’s high school draft class”
good changeup
great control

I can over look his maybe mechanical problems with all that going right with him. Hell there are only a handful of lefty starters (Price, Sabathia, Kershaw, Outman, Holland, delaRosa) now who can even sit at 92, then add in he does it with great control and potential plus breaking ball, that very nice.

That being said he isn’t going to the Cardinals with the money he’s asking for.

the criticism on poythress is that his swing is too muscular and he doesn’t really have the elite bat speed you look for. some scouts think he is using his strength and aluminum bats to put up his numbers. he is also limited to first base, and not many right handed hitting first basemen go super early int he draft.
