Jess Tood did not look very good at all. Watched the game tonight and the comentators remarks were “sub par major league fast ball (TOO SLOW), lack of location, is slider tempting enough to get major league hitters to swing at”.

I agree with Alex. Worst roster mgmt EVER. I live in Atlanta and have seen Boyer pitch well (before July 2008) and not well. If the brass thought enough of him to trade Barton to get him (a guy we sat on the roster all of 2008 – a significant investment in my book), how could you DFA him (especially after 5 pretty good innings on Wed)? I see no difference between Boyer and Thompson at this point. And I clearly do not understand encumbering the roster with Todd. I noticed that Boyer was DFA’d during the 8th inning of last night’s Carp gem. That combined with our inability to get a clutch base hit (unless Albert is hitting) forced me to go to bed in a bad mood.

Found this on MLB. Does this make any sense to do this to Boyer after trading Brian Barton for him?

A day after pitching five innings of relief, right-hander Blaine Boyer was thanked by being designated for assignment. The Cardinals have 10 days to trade Boyer, release him or waive him with the purpose of sending him outright to the Minor Leagues. Righty Jess Todd’s contract was purchased from Triple-A Memphis to take Boyer’s spot on the roster. The move adds depth to a bullpen that has worked hard in recent days.

Just wondering about the Boyer DFA. That is how the Cards aquired him with the Barton trade. Atlanta DFA’d Boyer and that’s when they worked out a trade with the Cards. Does this mean that he has accepted the DFA to Memphis or does he have to clear waivers or somthing like that? I thought there were 10 days in which the club has to work out a trade or out right release him or has he agreed to do this (Go to Memphis)?

I think it is a little premature to say that Greene and Mather have been called up. They have not been. Both are playing in the Memphis game right now. From the Leach blog I read it as he was speculating as to who they may call up. Maybe I am just misreading it.

HL has it right. Greene is ready to go now. Mather looks like he’s improving rapidly, but they’ve got four or five days to make the decision. I would also like to see Barden down and Boggs inserted if Lohse shows any signs of slippage.

I don’t know what to make of any of this but I am happy to see Todd get his chance. I hope Mather can put a stop to this third base merry-go-round and just mash the ball. It sounds like Greene is only up for a few days but that’s a nice bat to have off the bench if necessary
