Redbird-they have to put him on the 40 man this year.

Another interesting player that have to protect this year is Tyler Norrick. He has proven himself to be one of the best left handed relief pitchers in the system this year. I don’t think the cards are going to protect him over some other guys.

My question is , who really cares if Adam Ottavino is left off of the forty man roster and is taken in the rule five draft?

He’s a reliever, he always has been a reliever. No matter who what the man that drafted him says. Got plenty of those already.

How many more years do the cards have control of Ottavino or do they have to add him to the 40 man to protect him from Rule 5 this year?

C’mon, we’re beyond using ERA and and wins to evaluate players. Ottavino was walking 15% of batters in may (that’s terrible) and striking out 20% (that’s good but not great). He’s not a groundball pitcher so he’s got to strike guys out. He needs to turn things around in a major way to save the season.

Also, Ottavino’s ERA for the month of May was just a little over 2 and he still has yet to earn a win.

I think it is a little early to call Ottavino a lost season. It wouldn’t have mattered if he would have given up one run. The team doesn’t score when he takes the mound.
