One of the names that keeps comming up at 3rd base is Brandon Wood at AAA of the LA Angels. They have had him playing SS but he also plays 3B.

I watched last nights game and it appeared that Green’es error was on the first baseman not scoping the ball.

This is Great maybe they will have Ryan at SS and Greene at 2nd or vise versa. Move Skip out to LF to replace Baby Duncan or play Stavinoha in LF since he makes a lot of contact and strikes out less than BD. Greene may also be playing 3B as well. Great move.

I started to write something about TG’s “big stick in Memphis” not necessarily translating into high expectations for the bigs, but then I went and looked at how he and others who have played both in Memphis and in St. Louis this year have done. The results are … interesting.

TG: MEM .316/.420/.470, STL .263/.300/.500
Stavinoha: MEM .261/.339/.423, STL .261/.369/.425
Freese: MEM .253/.316/.330, STL .158/.227/.263 (ugh!)
Robinson: MEM .245/.328/.333, STL .240/.231(!)/.280

I know, small sample size, but two out of three other guys who have spent time at both places this year didn’t do much worse in the Show than in AAA, from a statistical perspective. In fact Stavy hasn’t done “worse” in St. Louis at all. Of course, the raw stats don’t show whether there’s a hole in TG’s swing, lack of patience, vulnerability to a changeup, etc., that an AAA pitcher might not be skilled enough to exploit while a major leaguer can. Still, it’s something.

This seems to give some hope that TG might be able to sustain something like that .263/.300/.500 pace — and if he does while playing good defense at short, then I know which Greene I’d be happy to see at that position for a long, long time.

welcome back indeed. i would like to see him stick around for a while so we see what we have. he turns 26 in august, so its not like he is young. brendan ryan has been very good defensively, but greene is no slouch with the glove and he has far more offensive upside. he’s been swinging a big stick in memphis since going down.
