The complete quote from Luhnow re: signing Miller: “It’s no slam dunk that we are going to sign him quickly or sign him at all.”

Get ready for some drama, people. It’s a dice roll, especially with no sandwich pick. At worst, they pick again 20th overall, although I’m not quite sure they can get someone with Miller’s upside 20th next year. We’ll see what happens.

Why would Luhnow say this publicly? Seems like this is something to keep close to the vest.

Isn’t he just being political? I mean, what else can he say? He’s No. 3 on the totem pole. And they ARE in negotiations right now, are they not? Isn’t the smart thing to do to say, “We can walk if you won’t be reasonable?”

I would give him a little bit of credit here. It’s exactly the way you treat an 18-year-old hotshot whose looking at potentially sitting out a solid year before he can collect his millions. Cash today or cash in 365 days? Your call, bub.

    Sluhser–

He’s not talking to the fans, he’s talking to MIller and his agent.

    Red,

Miller is a HS’er, which means if he doesn’t sign this year he won’t be eligible until 2011 or 2012 (don’t know if he’ll be a draft eligible Sophomore or not).

  5. shanky says:

Everyone and their mother with internet access already knows miller’s asking price, so it’s not as though cards brass are unawares. I agree that he’s softening them up to get that price tag down.

  6. Munsur says:

Law said Miller has been scaring teams, but most in baseball feel he will settle for less than he’s asking. One positive is Boras isn’t his agent.

  7. BD says:

    1) does he have a possible college commitment 2) the organization learned their lesson with Kyle Russell
