I'll believe $3M signing bonus from the Cardinals to a 16 yr old kid when I see it. That kind of bonus flies right in the face of what they do in the draft.

I really like this new direction. From what I'm reading, Mateo is one of the few guys with no doubts about his age. I think because of his history of playing for high-profile DR teams his age is well-documented.

I can't imagine the Cards drafted Miller w/o the budget to sign him. It would go against everything they've done since 2005, w/ the exception of Kyle Russell, the 4th-rounder, in 2007.

And Stock is just 19, a year and change older than Miller.

There's a lot of risk to going with high-upside young players like these, but as we've all pointed out, the Cards now have a system packed with low- and moderate-upside college players who're crowding the upper levels of the system. If there was ever a time to stock up on riskier but potentially more valuable young players, it's now.

I know these moves won't quiet the guys who insist the Cards' owners are running some kind of pump-and-dump scheme on the fans, but it looks to me like they're digging in with the type of long-term investment in the organization's future that we've all been hoping to see. Great stuff.

Of course this is no sure thing, but this is what it takes now if your want to grab big time talent in that market. The stated direction has been developing from within. This move puts a lot of teeth behind that. Credibility, whatever you want to call it. We've become a serious player in the Latin American market.

I'm like everyone else that I really want Miller signed too, but I assume they went into it thinking they could do both. If it turns out they can't, I'm not going to hang that over Mateo's head.

WOWA $3M. Its takes our big league club guys that make the league min 4 or 5 years to make that. This guy better be that good and telling the truth about his age.

Wow, great news.

And in the Springfield tie-breaker for a playoff spot, Trey Hearne just hit a fly ball to centerfield for an inside-the-park home run.
