From Baseball Prospectus’ Kiley McDaniel:
The Cardinals will be announcing their signings in a press conference at the Hilton in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic at 10:30 AM, with a press release coming on the team site soon thereafter.
That will include some guy you have probably heard of…Wagner Mateo.
Check the Baseball Prospectus link for updates on all the signings.
As always check out the twitter updates from: Kiley McDaniel, Jorge Arangure, and Ben Badler.
Update, by erik: I’m sure most of you have seen by now, but the deal has been officially announced.

Sorry for doubling up on you Jeff! 5 minutes ’til the announcement. Maybe we’ll get an extra name or two to talk about today. (Maybe not)
No worries Erik. I didn’t see one up yet – so I struck.
Just sitting at work hitting refresh. When do we hear some actual news!?!?!?
apparently news is trickling in slowly today. back to work.
I think it’s just wrong that I’m sitting here at my computer waiting for an arbitrary 10:30 AM deadline to find out what 16-year-old prospects the Cards will sign. I blame you Mr. Manning for this compulsive disorder!
So, Mateo is officially signed. Nice. But, is that it? He’s the only one listed in the press release.
Yes, that’s what it looks like now. I was tempted by Kiley’s use of “signings”. Maybe I’m reading too much into this….
Yawn…kinda uneventful isn’t it. Nothing we didn’t know going in.
I see the Cardinals are working out second baseman Jairo Kelly.
From Ben Badler:
Scouts say the Mets have shown strong interest in Jairo Kelly, a shortstop from Santiago in the Dominican Republic who could land a mid six-figure bonus. At around 5-foot-11, Kelly is a switch-hitter, showing more power from the right side and a line-drive swing from the left side, though scouts disagree about whether he’s better swinging lefthanded or righthanded.
“He’s not a real toolsy guy,” said a National League international scouting director. “He’s got a short stroke with some rhythm, but not with much power.”
Kelly has a plus arm, though his accuracy is below-average, and most scouts say he is not a great runner. Some scouts have suggested that he would best fit at second base.
Listening to BDIII being interviewed by Mr. Faberge Egg and BDIII said that the Mateo signing does not affect their ability to sign Shelby Miller. Said that he “doesn’t see any reason why Miller will not be signed.”
Nothing we haven’t heard before but it is nice to hear it reiterated.
