Reifer's is posting a BABIP of .400 this year while having only one of .242 last year. His GB% last year was 56% while this year it is 41%. Now he is giving up less HR's per FB than last year only 4% this year compared to 7% this year.

So my guess is his Line Drive percentage against is through the roof. I wish I knew were to look to confirm my suspicion but I don't know where to look for LD% for minor leaguers in A ball.

If his LD rate is up than he might be tipping his pitches or not getting the same movement he did last year. His BB and K percentages numbers are down from last year. That might just going to the next level or he is sacrificing movement/speed for accuracy.

I would love to hear a recent scouting report on him

sluhser,
I think it's fair to be cautious given that he has only pitched 12 innings.

However, Lavigne isn't some older guy dominating younger, less experienced players. He is actually a little young for the league because he is still 20 years old (he turns 21 years old in a few weeks). And I don't know how polished he can be because most of his college career was spent at Southern Nevada, which isn't exactly playing a tough schedule.
Anyway, most of the prospects in the NY Penn League players are college juniors and seniors who are at between 21 or 22 years old. Lavigne is right where he should be, and he's striking out a lot of guys, not walking many, and with a 2:1 GO:AO ration. If he can keep it up...

Lavigne is also a polished college arm pitching in rookie ball. While its exciting to see I wouldn't put too much stock in it.

Tyler Lavigne must have had signability questions to fall that far in the draft. Does anyone know what his signing bonus was?

Anyway, good job by the Cards taking that chance and either getting lucky or showing the kid some money. He has 17 K and only 2 BB in 12 IP - sort of reminds me of Jesse Todd's start with Batavia a few years ago.

The Dutch Oven stays hot with 3 more hits tonight.

Tyler Lavigne is off to a really solid start to his pro career. 17 K, and only 2 BB, in 12.2 IP. Not bad for a 50th-rounder. He put up some good stats in college, playing for a good program at San Diego State. Makes you wonder why he fell all the way to the 50th round.
