Grant--agreed about Adams. I'd like to see him get bumped to at least Batavia (possibly QC) before the end of the year. He put up ridiculous numbers at Slippery Rock. Batavia would be a better test for him going forward I think. I haven't followed Racobaldo as much so I'll defer to your assessment on him.

nmstar - I thought about that right after I posted. I figure that's how it will go down anyway. They will keep Stock at JC this year and evaluate him after the season. I would like to see Racobaldo and Adams bumped up though. Batavia's offense could definitely use the boost.

Isn't the DP totals more of a result of the type of pitchers we have in the system? Alot of baserunners plus alot of ground ball pitchers seems to me to lead to the high DP totals

Scouts hate 2nd basemen.

Here's some keystoners who never made Baseball America's top 75 prospects:

Chase Utley
Dustin Pedroia
Ian Kinsler
Dan Uggla
Robinson Cano
Chuck Knoblauch

So I wouldn't expect Dan Descalso to receive any respect whatever--even with the great AA numbers & spectacular DP totals (very nearly one per game).

From one rabid fans point of view, descalso is a good defensive second basemen. He has the look of someone who is fairly new to his position, which I understand he is, his movements are very deliberate, but his range is probably a tick above average. Fundamentally he is very sound. His throws are generally quick and fairly precise and his foot work, while very deliberate, is pretty much text book quality.

One thing that gets lost to those that haven't seen him play is what a good athlete he is, he's even dare I say it, gritty. He's not tremendously flashy, but consistent at this point with probably a little more room to improve. He reminds me quite a bit of Matt Antonelli, who is considered a plus defender by some.

Re: Descalso. For what it's worth the Sporting News made him their all star minor league second baseman for the first half. That was before his promotion. If he really is averaging a DP per game he's been an incredibly valuable asset to his teams.

Grant, why are you asking to promote Stock? He has only played about 16 games there after struggling mightily at USC. Why not let him regain the feeling of success and let him stay at JC? He is only 19 and is playing against kids his own age for the first time in several years. He has plenty of time. A solid year in the Appy League puts him into position to be the starting catcher at QC at age 20 next year--not bad at all.

Scouts do not like second basemen. Period.

Chase Utley's highest Baseball America ranking ever? 81. Neither Ian Kinsler nor Dustin Pedroia (both were shortstops expected to move to 2nd base) ever ranked in BA's top 75 prospects. Robinson Cano & Dan Uggla? Never in the top 100. Hell, Chuck Knoblauch was never in BA's top 75.

So wherever Dan Descalso *isn't* ranked, we should take it with a big grain of salt. ;)

Oh, and Descalso has now turned an incredible 81 DP's in 84 games, too. If he truly is an above-average keystone defender, and the bat is 90% real, Descalso could...be...the...best prospect in the system.

I'm wondering what happens to Descalso when Hoffp arrives back in Memphis today. Who plays 2B? It would be hard to send Descalso back to Springfield after his showing in AAA. And Hoffp had a nice showing in St. Louis although played little, the guy needs ABs.
