I could see him getting action in September as a call-up simply to get him innings once the minor league seasons have ended. That seems to make sense if all goes well.

I can't imagine anyone thinking he'd make the playoff roster or something like that. The brass is just looking for ways to get him ready for '10.

Per eye witness who saw Garcia pitched today....4 batters /14 pitches/4 strike outs...impressive to say the least...made batters look silly according to source....did not stay to see if there were more innings...source had to go...

I just don't see the total need for a LHP out of the pen. He wouldn't replace anyone on the current bullpen roster. I see him being a call-up if he can help. Otherwise, they probably won't want to pile up innings on him.

I do think Glaus is a bit of a distraction from the deadline. Until more teams fall off, I don't see a lot of moves available for a hitter. I think getting Glaus ready will give the FO some fallback when talking to the fans. Whether he can eer be productive is another matter. Everyone worried about his BA against minor league hitters is missing the point. It will take him time to get his timing down. I am more concerned about where he plays. He was thought to be the RH hitter and answer at 3B, but if he cannot play 3B he doesn't help that much in my mind.

Jaime has pitched all of 16 MLB innings. As such, I think it is important for Jamie to get some minor league innings before their season ends allowing the Cards to gauge where he is at in his recovery. I just can't see using such an inexperienced guy coming off TJ in any role but mopup on the big club until he completes a few innings somewhere to demonstrate what he can give us. An effective lefty in the pen who does not get destroyed by right handed hitters could help this club.

I agree with RedC and I was also going to bring up Paper Lions point about minor league seasons. I see Garcia being brought up in September since he is on the 40 man anyway and could get some innings in as a reliever.

Minor league seasons end earlier than MLB; therefore, Garcia may not have much chance to get in some work down there. Even if he "comes to St. Louis", that doesn't mean he sees game action (or meaningful innings)....they may just be planning to get his feet wet a little in prep for next year.

There are reasons that the Cardinals do things, usually they make sense. I'm all for criticism, but jumping on Mo (or anyone) for something when he knows A LOT more than anyone here about the situation is not constructive.

I believe that Matty Mo was brought up as a reliever for half a year after his Tommy John surgery. I have to agree with RedC, players get injured and the club's medical staff does there best to get them back with the big league club when they are ready. Sometimes people just can't come back from injuries. I know everybody gets upset with optimisstic time tables, but it could be worse, the club could refuse to comment on injuries at all (which is something I would do if I were in the front office, as it allows other clubs to know you weaknesses and puts you behind the eightball in trade discussions).

It was said he could be up by the end of the season... not that he would be. They're just leaving the door open IF he comes through his rehab stint and hasn't missed a beat. It's a slim chance we see Garcia come back as quickly as we saw Carp this year. It will probably take him some time to get a feel for his pitches and develop his control... but if he does have a Carpenter-esque comeback, then they will bring him up and probably should bring him up as an expanded roster option for the staff (probably in the bullpen).

Good grief! All Mo said was Garcia could be in St. Louis by the end of the season. Enough about the Cardinal medical staff. They didn't injure Mark Mulder's arm. They didn't make Scott Rolen run into Hee-Sop Choi. They did, as I recall perform a successful surgery on Chris Carpenter's elbow. They did, as I recall, inject Jim Edmonds's foot for a dozen games or something so he could play in the World Series. They did transpose the nerve on the elbow of the greatest hitter of his generation, possibly all-time. They knitted Jason Isringhausen together with enough staples, sutures and titanium bolts to assemble an airplane.

The front office may be guilty of overpromising on recovery times, but this crap about blaming George Paletta and Barry Weinberg for it is really unfair and, frankly, obnoxious. Give it a damn rest already. Let's just all be thankful that Jaime is recovering and will hopefully be with the big club soon.
