Sorry about the delay, the FR.net server was down last night and I couldn’t post this.

Congratulations to the Hawk.  Picked up his first MLB win last night by pitching 3 great innings of relief.  His fastball had a bit more speed and his breaking stuff had a bit more movement.  He made a very good team of hitters look very silly at times.

Memphis 1, Round Rock 3

  • Tyler Greene hit a HR. He really is unluckily stuck behind Ozzie Ryan. If you combined the two SS, we’d have the best SS in the league outside of Hanley Ramirez.
  • Allen Craig hit a double. Ho Hum. I’m glad Nick Stavinoha got the call instead.
  • This would qualify as one of Ottavino’s better starts. Pitching 5 innings, he got 7 groundouts and 5 strikeouts. Unfortunately, he also gave up 9 hits, 2 BBs and 3 ER.
  • Matthew Scherer and Pete Parise were those two kids in the same class that had the same sentences and facts in their book reports. Both pitched 2 innings, giving up a hit and striking out a batter.

Springfield 9, Arkansas (The State) 0

  • The double stick was out in full effect. Steven Hill, Pete Kozma, David Freese, Trey Henley and James Rapoport (4 RBI) all had one.
  • David Freese had a HR and 4 RBI. FSNMidwest said his HR traveled 450 feet.
  • Pete Kozma had his 20th error of the season. He’s firmly 3rd on the organizational SS chart right now and the two guys he is chasing down are 27 and 25. If you gave Greene until age 29 as a Cardinals SS, Kozma would still only be 25 years old. Take your time, Pete. Become a complete player.
  • Brandon Dickson pitched 8 superb innings, easing my Clayton Mortensen pain. He scattered 8 hits, walked 1 and struck out 2. He got 10 groundouts and 11 flyouts.
  • Tyler Norrick pitched a perfect inning, striking out 1.

The QC completed the game from yesterday as well as playing today’s game.

Quad Cities 0, South Bend Golden Domers 6

  • Kyle Conley had a single.
  • Kevin Thomas was all about the 5. Five innings, 5 hits, 5 ERs, 0 BBs and 2 strikeouts.
  • David Carpenter pitched an inning and gave up an unearned run. He was tagged with a hit, a walk and a strikeout.

Palm Beach was postponed. Yay! More games for tomorrow’s DFR!

Batavia was postponed.

JC had TWO games postponed. The first one was suspended with the JCCardinals taking a beating 8-3 in the bottom of the 3rd.

I think I’m on pace to do about 12 games tomorrow, but ultimately that’s ok since tonight’s Cardinals game went well into August!

Hawk was very impressive in St. Louis last night, I’d agree. There’s probably a good chance that he’s the one sent down when they bring up Boggs, just because of the wear-and-tear factor, but it’s getting harder to justify having him in Memphis for long.

    Any updates on signings?

    The hawk was great.

I like that we’re seeing more consistent outings from dickson.

as much as HR are great, I will look forward to reading the dfr where tyler greene draws three walks instead of hitting a HR everyday. That might mean he could actually hit in the big leagues.

  3. Ryan says:

Hawk has gone from an afterthought to a guy that could probably be a solid #5 starter. Good for him.

Tom S. – I think I understand where you are going with walks over homers. But to be anal I would rather Greene hit a homer every day than draw three walks. Drawing walks might mean he has a good eye but still doesn’t mean he can hit at all. I think getting his contact rate higher and maintaining a good line drive % will be his keys. The guy will strikeout and will hit homers. It just about being consistent making contact. Walks don’t mean you make contact.

getting very intrigued by Dickson… actually, between Hearne/Lynn/Dickson, we could have some interesting young starters on the Memphis staff next year.

  6. VolsnCards5 says:

i’d actually like to see dickson moved to AAA this year…he’ll be 25 in the offseason, so i kinda want to see if his results will translate at the next level, or if he is just effective in springfield because he is older than most of the batters and he is repeating…while i think hearne and lynn should finish the year in AA, i feel the exact opposite about dickson

  7. VolsnCards5 says:

umm scratch what i said about hearne…i was thinking herron…hearne is older than dickson

  8. VolsnCards5 says:

and yes, i realize that herron is no longer in the organization…but i was thinking hearne was herron’s age…ugh, i confuse myself so easily

its going to be nice when, in two years, we have two cheap lefties in the pen with norrick and freeman

    FREE MATT SCHERER!!!!

I was at the game last night (the whole game-I’m a true fan), and Hawk looked very impressive. I’m glad he was able to get the win, he definitely earned it.

Az, looking forward to that write-up on Gorgen. I really like him as a prospect.

  11. HL says:

There was a tornado in Memphis. The start of the game is delayed. I hope everything is ok.

  12. VolsnCards5 says:

there were tornados all over west tennesse…two or three in memphis area…i don’t see how they get the game in…i go to school within 2 miles of autozone park and it poured all day long, and was getting worse when i left at 5…ugly ugly weather
