End of July.  One month to go for our little hatchlings.

Happy Thoughts!  Today is Mitchell Boggs Day.  He’s got just about ZERO competition from Todd Wellemeyer at this point, has quite a bit from The Hawk and perhaps a tad from a potential waiver-wire pickup later on.  Of course, we go about 5 spins through the rotation without needing a 5th starter, which shows how horribly we mismanaged letting Todd Wellemeyer take 4 starts too many.

But Happy Thoughts!  David Freese has been promoted, Sam Freeman is on the DL with Chuckie Fick taking his place.  Kenny Maquies has been released.

Lots of rain, some really nasty weather in Memphis.  Everyone stay safe.

Palm Beach 5, Dunedin Mifflin 2

  • Adron Chambers has been a pleasant surprise. He’s a bit of a Juan Pierre offensive player which has value in organizations. He is going to turn 23 this off-season so he may be a little old for his league but still a pleasant surprise. He went 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI. He also had an error.
  • Aaron Luna went 2-for-3 with a 3 Run HR.
  • Chris Swauger was 3-for-4 with a run scored.
  • David Kopp picked up the win with 5.1 innings of 4 hit shutout baseball. He walked 2 and struck out 2.
  • Thomas Eager pitched 1.2 innings, giving up a hit and striking out 1.
  • Chrysanthemum Linares was perfect in his inning, striking out 2.
  • Jared Bradford gave up 2 unearned runs on 1 hit, striking out 2.

Quad Cities 1, South Bend Rudingers 2

Batavia 2, Williamsport 1 (Game 1)

  • D’Marcus Ingram was 2-for-3. Ingram stole 3rd base TWICE in this game and 2nd base once. He now has 16 on the season.
  • Uber-cool name Ryde Rodriguez was 1-for-3 with a double and RBI.
  • Eric Fornataro took the win by scattering 7 hits over 6 innings of 1 run ball. He struck out 2.
  • LaCurtis Mayes was perfect for the save, striking out 1.

Batavia 0, Williamsport 4 (Game 2)

  • Ryan Jackson had 2/3rds of the hits tonight, going 2-for-3.
  • Nico Vasquez had the other third, raising his average to a robust .200.
  • Deryk Hooker struck out 4 in 4 innings, but gave up 5 hits and 4 ER.
  • Joe Kelly was superb, striking out 4 out of the 6 outs he got. He gave up a hit as well.

Yes, that is all.

My god, Niko has just been a dud this year.

I think with Jackson’s ++ glove, he should be getting all the starts in Batvia to see if he’s at least somewhat competent with the bat. Niko is just a drain.

  2. Grant says:

I think it’s time for Fornataro to get a promotion. He’s been really good for Batavia this year. Not striking out many, but he’s a ground-ball machine.

  3. sluhser says:

Nico is 20 years old. He has the tools to put a poor year behind him yet.

  4. Kyle says:

Joe Kelly: 11.1 Innings, 11 Ks, 2 BBs. Good start. Hes got the stuff so its good to see him having control as well.

Got to agree on both Fornataro and Joe Kelly. Kelly in particular has been impressive so far, with a 2.03 FIP. I really liked the Kelly pick when the Cards made it, and I think he could contribute to the Cardinal bullpen as early as midseason of 2010. Well, maybe September.

Matt Frevert is quietly putting together a nice season as well at Quad Cities. Nice ERA, and a 22:6 K:BB rate. He’s given up a couple homers, but I’m starting to think he could take off next year and be ready to get a shot at the big league bullpen in ’11.

Have the links to the boxscores been intentionally removed? I for one have missed them over the last two days.

  7. jimmy joe says:

Please, sir, may we have some more links?

At Batavia, Jackson IS getting the starts at SS, Nico/Niko is playing 3B usually or DH occasionally.

  9. lassie01 says:

I was really hoping Nico would tear up QC then hold his own at Palm Beach, positioning himslef to see quite a bit of time at AA next year. Man, a very down year to say the least.

Let’s hope he can have a Daryl Jones like resergence next year. GOOD LUCK Nico!!!

  10. Mike E. says:

Nice to see some speed down there in Adron and D’Marcus. Remember when the Cards used to be fast? Yeah, me neither.

  11. VolsnCards5 says:

ughh, kenny maquies…i hope samuel does not end up like that

  12. bookerd says:

I’m starting to get excited about Luna, he is putting together a good season after a slow start. So they release Degerman and Maquies, but keep Daley.

Nice start for Rondon for the BAndits – he retired the last 13 batters he faced and had thrown only 70+ pitches, so not sure why they took him iut.

Luhnow now on Twitter….Well, my life is complete.

  14. Tom says:

I don’t know why I haven’t thought of this before but David Kopp needs a nickname. I vote for…. The Sheriff

  15. ken says:

Isn’t Luna ready for AA? He’s sporting a .390 wOBA at this point.

  16. RobertoRydeWagner says:

Chambers and Ingram played at the same junior college.
