Archive for August, 2009The playoff update will wait until tomorrow and I’ll update QC’s game tomorrow morning. QC’s game is updated. Beer me that DFR. Shelby Miller threw another bullpen on Saturday. He’s already calling his fastball a two-seamer. These prospects just grow up so fast . . . Miller’s brief September stint in QC is, imo, a good but almost completely inconsequential item in terms of his development. The consensus seems to be that it’s a bit aggressive but in a positive way. Personally, I don’t think it’s aggressive at all given that he’s expected to start there next season. Erin Bolen has some comments from Daryl Jones and Pop Warner on his future after a season derailed by injuries. In much the same way that Colby Rasmus’s injuries did little to his stock after 2008, Jones isn’t going to be undone by one injury season either. He’ll still find himself in the top 5 of most (if not all) major Cardinal rankings and he’s still one of the most projectable outfielders in the Cardinals’ system. Pete Kozma is struggling less. If nothing else, this was a well timed piece as Kozma blasted two homeruns over the weekend. A Brett Wallace scouting report without comment. By signing bonus, the Cardinals nabbed the 7th best talent with the 19th pick. Ummm. . .lots of games. Double header in Springfield and JC. As well as late night game for Memphis. I’ve been on the road for about 6 hours today, so you’re getting most of the games tonight with an update (Memphis, Springfield Game 2 and QC) in the morning as I hit the sack early. Update done. Allen Craig for 2010 bench bat!!! Away we go. At the ever-improving Circling the Bases blog, Matthew Pouliot looks at what a completely homegrown Cardinals team would look like today.…, not talking about current farmhands, just former ones. It isn’t pretty.
Stock has put up some great numbers, but we’re talking about a couple of months in the Appy. I think Stock’s upside is higher than many of the prospects in the system, but let’s not get carried away yet. Pinch-hitting for the Robotic One, let’s DFR this thing. There’s a lot of reason to be excited about Jaime Garcia. After being selected in the 22nd round of the 2005 draft, Garcia pitched very well in 2006, held his own as a 21 year old in AA in 2007 and made it all the way to the majors as a 22 year old pitcher. He suffered an elbow strain toward the end of 2007 that the club chose to treat with rehab only to see the ligament tear the following year. Since having Tommy John surgery last year, Garcia has begun working his way back with rehab starts at various levels of the system. On August 19th, he started at Memphis with a terrible first inning followed by a successful 5 frames where he struck out 8. I’ll have a review of Jaime Garcia with special attention to his 8/19 start up around noon central time. Memphis has a homerun binge as several of the older AAA prospects and one really old man go deep in the game. A nice game for Palm Beach too before pitching undoes the lower minors. The season is winding down so enjoy the DFRs while they last. Memphis was the only team to lose tonight. Let’s stop, drop and roll the DFR. Now this is a nice collection of prospects for us to follow in the AFL: Pitchers:
Position Players:
I’d guess you’ve got at least 4 of the system’s top 10 prospects in that group and maybe more. We’ll have AFL updates once the games start in October. *Correction: As Derrick Goold points out, Anderson did not have shoulder surgery instead opting for rehab. |
