This DFR is presented by Blake Hawksworth who has inserted himself into the 7th or 8th inning right-hander role with the big club. It is nice to see that Hawksworth is regaining the hype he had as a younger prospect. He’s been wandering for a few years and it’s nice for him to finally find his way.

There’s a lesson for you kids. Doesn’t matter how long it takes you or how many times you get listed in the DFR, if you get called up and stick, that’s what its all about. And that’s all we want here at Future Redbirds, we want the St. Louis Cardinals to win. We also love to see our eggs help out. HPGF 4 Life!

DFR, jump, etc, you know the drill.

Memphis, Colorado Springs is suspended in the 1st because of wet grounds. Whatever that means. Probably means that the ground was wet. But, wasn’t it wet when the game started? Either way, I’ll follow up in the morning to see if this game got going again.

    Samuel wasn’t overly bad today, walked one, hit the second, gave up a soft hit to right, and then gave up a broke bat weak hit to LF. The final hit gave up 2 runs only because Luna wasn’t paying attention and didn’t even throw the ball in. Samuel has been alot worse, he did a good job controlling the ball after the first 2 batters.

  2. Andrew says:

    Great game by Ferrara also, only 2 of his 5 hits even left the infield.

  3. Donny K. says:

    You must be more of a glass-half-full kind of guy… he may not have gotten hit hard, but he still started off wild with poor control. He can’t continue to give guys free passes, or he’ll end up in a trade to Cleveland for a utility guy…

  4. Andrew says:

    Nah Iwouldn’t say that I listened to the game, and the first 2 batters was bad, but after that he calmed down. He’s only 19 I believe and to ahve that much talent, its really something special. So I’m not too worried about him. He won’t help the big club this year or maybe even next, but I think hes probably one of the Cardinals top 5 prospects.

    Fangraphs lists Samuel as 22, 23 this December. With his talent I wouldn’t say he is running out of time but he needs to put it together in the next two years.

    I drove down last night from Denver to Colorado Springs to watch the Redbirds. During the bottom of the first, the skies opened up and deluged Security Service Field with torrential rain and hail. The hail blocked the field drains and at one point the water was about 10 inches deep in front of the Redbird dugout. Once the rain had subsided the Memphis players came out of the locker room, congregated on the concourse, and began launching snowballs at each other. What a sight watching professional baseball players acting like kids throwing snowballs at each other in the middle of August. It was a great opportunity to mingle with the players and talk with them and collect autographs. I spent about ten minutes talking with Jarrett Hoffpauir. He was extremely personable as we talked about playing in various Triple A parks. I then asked him what was it like when he was called up to St Louis, was there a special moment? He looked out onto the rain and hail soaked field and said no, not one thing, it was all special. You could just feel his sense of pride of getting the call up. I also spoke with Ian Ostlund, Josh Kinney, Allen Craig, David Freese, Tyler Greene and had a great conversation with Royce Ring. The game was ultimately suspended but this is one of the most memorable nights I have ever spent at a ballpark.

    Yea Its Sanchez that is 20, I got the ages confused. I went back and watched the Gameday pitch tracker of Samuels inning last night. Honestly not bad at all, the walk was a 10 pitch at bat were he kind of got squeezed on the ball 4 pitch. The next pitch was were he hit the guy.

  8. Lou Schuler says:

    Is there really any timetable on pitchers? I know the clock ticks when it comes to adding guys to the 40-man and protecting them from the Rule 5 draft, and then we have minor-league free agency after 6 years. But in terms of their development, it happens when it happens. Does anyone care that Hawksworth is 26?

    That said, Sanchez, just 20, is a pretty exciting prospect. (And in looking up his age, I discovered his middle name is Nazareth. Love to know if there’s a story behind that.)

    @Jeff Roman

    I noticed the other day you said you lived in Boston… may i ask whereabouts?

    I lived in Quincy for about a year a few years back.

    @andrew

    I was at the game. Samuel was not squeezed. He just really has a hard time knowing where the ball is going. He gets upset very easily also if things doesn’t go his way. He was lucky Tulsa did not get more than they did last night.

    Samuel throws hard and his pitches do have movement, but until he can get better command and control his emotions he needs to stay where he is at.

    At a game a few weeks ago against Northwest Arkansas he was even tipping his fastball. One of their players is Vance Wilson an ex major league catcher trying to rehab. After his AB(a home run) I saw him telling the next 2 guys waiting to bat what to watch for. I watched for the same thing and sure enough he was. After that game and one more he made an adjustment.

    Anway I just think Samuel has a ways to go and hopefully he figures it out.

  11. Andrew says:

    Hopefully our coaches see the same thing and the situation is being corrected. Being at a game what is your impression of Sanchez is he as good as everyone thinks he is? I would be really interested hearing a scouting report from someone who has seen Sanchez in person. Norrick too, the annoucers always talk abotu how talented his is but how he has no control.

  12. BigJawnMize says:

    HA! Samuel was tipping his fastball…thats a good one. Almost like saying Motte was tipping his fastball–what the heck else is he going to get over the plate.

  13. themop10 says:

    Hey guys, whenever the pitcher starts his windup, that means he is throwing his fastball….
