Memphis 5, Oklahoma City 3

  • Jon Jay was 2-for-4 with a double.
  • David Freese was 1-for-2 with a pair of walks. He’s posted a respectable .879 OPS in Memphis this season.
  • Jarrett Hoffpauir was 2-for-3 with a double.
  • Matt Pagnozzi was 2-for-4.
  • Lance Lynn was impressive (in the box score) for his Memphis debut. He went 6.2 innings allowing 5 hits, 3 walks and 2 runs. He kept the ball on the ground recording one more groundout than flyout and K’d an impressive 9 batters. I’ll try and download the video this weekend to write up a scouting report. Without seeing anything so far, I still feel like the Cardinals are too aggressive with their pitching prospects. I don’t like seeing guys like Lynn and Mortensen move this quickly. Lynn responded well but the Cardinals have a dubious track record of developing pitchers and quick promotions doesn’t seem like the way to turn that around.
  • Fernando Salas pitched a 1 hit, 1 K 8th inning.
  • Pete Parise picked up the save allowing 1 hit and an unearned run in the 9th inning.

Springfield 3, Tulsa 2

  • Daryl Jones, leading off, was 2-for-5 with a walk-off ground rule double.
  • Andrew Brown and Joe Mather both went 2-for-4. Mather doubled.
  • Tyler Henley was 1-for-3 with a walk. He’s had a rough 0-for-25 spat in the last 10 days dropping his season OPS to .846.
  • Chuckie Fick tossed 5 scoreless innings before Gary Daley gave up a pair in the 6th to tie the game.
  • The S-Cards managed to eek out the win without using Eduardo Sanchez. A pair of scoreless innings from just activated Justin Fiske followed by a scoreless 9th from Casey Mulligan finished off the game.

Palm Beach 7, St. Lucie 8 (Game 1: 7 innings)

  • Curt Smith was 3-for-4 with a double.
  • Francisco Rivera and Paul Vasquez both went 2-for-3 with a HR.
  • Mike Parisi got the start and go shelled. 10 hits in 3.1 innings for 6 ER.
  • Jason Buuuuuuuuuuursma pitched a pair of scoreless frames allowing a hit.

Palm Beach 4, St. Lucie 8 (Game 2: 7 innings)

  • Tommy Pham was 3-for-3 with a double. I hate making too much of monthly splits . . . but Pham posted a .354/.408/.662 line in August. Just sayin’.
  • Palm Beach had 5 errors.
  • Arquimedes Nieto got shelled for 6 runs on 7 hits in 2.1 innings.
  • Jared Bradford struck out 3 in 2.2 innings walking 1.

Quad Cities 11, Beloit 5

  • D’Marcus Ingram and Xavier Scruggs went 2-for-5 with a double.
  • Jason Stidham was 2-for-5 with a triple.
  • Raco Racobaldo was 3-for-5 with a double.
  • Domnit Bolivar have yourself a night!  He went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a homerun.
  • Scott Schneider allowed 5 runs (4 earned) in 6.1 innings.  He struck out 7 and walked 2.
  • Matt Frevert and David Carpenter combined to finish off the game.  Each pitcher struck out 2 and walked 1.

Batavia 7, Auburn 16

  • Devin Goodwin was 2-for-5 with a double.
  • Matt Adams was 2-for-4.
  • Kyle Conley was 3-for-5 with a double and a HR. After struggling in a brief QC stint, Conley is posting a 1.125 OPS in Batavia. Eat your heart out Matt Adams.
  • Batavia used three different batting practice pitching machines on the mound. They gave up a lot of runs. They were traded to the Pirates major league team for tomorrow night’s game!

They are saying that this was a one time start for Lynn, and he’s going back to Springfield on regular rest for the playoffs. I think the organization just wanted to see how he would fair against AAA hitting to make a decision on what to do with him next year.

It also had something to do w/ MEM playing 5 games in 4 days.

I just want to give it up for Josh Thole. He is a catcher for the Mets–just got the call up. He is the 1st pro athlete to make the show from my high school ever (as far as I can remember).

I hope we are finally seeing the start of the long-awaited Tommy Pham breakthrough

I watched the Memphis game yesterday and don’t get me wrong not saying Lynn is good enough for the Bigs now but he really does look like a big league pitcher. Great mound presence big body, plus he throws harder than most think.

Anyone know why Allen Craig got taken out after 2 AB’s? Memphis paper doesn’t mention anything about it…

the thing that doesn’t concern me with pushing lynn (and probably the reason that he has had so much success this yeat) is that unlike most cardinal pitching prospects, he has excellent fastball command. every time i have seen him pitch he does a really nice job spotting his fastball on the corners and elevating it when he needs a strikeout. i would like to see if he has made any improvement with his secondary stuff this year, but commanding the fastball can go a long way to having success.

Any reason why the QC game was not included?

very impressive start from lynn..watched the game on milb.tv
can’t wait to see freese, greene back in the majors and craig get his major league debut

Lynn will begin his season next year in AAA, that is not why they moved him up, he’s a workhorse, and hoping that workhorse doesn’t break down.
Interesting that they moved King to AA he he hasn’t pitched much. Kelly got her wish, but IMO, he would have gotten more out of remaining in PB, with better stats to end the year.
I think, in general, most are all just plain wiped out.
