The story with Ferrarra is he is a left handed starter throws pretty hard. A first round talent that fell to the 7th round because a shoulder issue that may have needed surgery. He was drafted and went to Dr. James Andrews who said he didn’t need surgery just a rehabilitation program. He’s got big league stuff and good command, smooth left handed delievery and probably has number 2 talent. I would say he’s the most talented LHP starting draft since Ankiel. I guess it’s not obvious to me why Ferrara is “interesting,” other than the fact that he and Russell (who threw less than 20 innings at this level) are the only players of this bunch who are young for the level. What do you see in him? What’s his stuff like? In the lower minors, stuff, projectability, etc., probably count for more than stats.

I’m very pleased with Ferrara, he’s a guy that we drafted in a lower round who dropped because of shoulder issues. They say he was a first round talent that we got in the 9th I believe. He’s pitched a full season has been healthy with a good record and ERA. The fact that yes one of the younger pitchers and has the most innings is very promising. I believe hes one of the few true starting pitcher prospects we have in the organization.

I wish I knew if Russell was for real. Maybe the previous two years were just because he was so young.

Even if you include Ortiz’s 5 HBP (in just 13 innings) he really looks unlucky based on FIP. 2nd year in a row he hasn’t given up a homer yet he has terrible ground ball rates.
