Here’s my effort at a Viva El Birdos-like open thread.
Memphis is facing off against Sacramento in the PCL World Series.
The game will start at about 8:15pm after a rain delay.
Here’s the gameday link and the game will be broadcast live on milb.tv if you are a subscriber.
Go Redbirds!
UPDATE: The DFR boxscore is after the jump!
- The story of the night was Jaime Garcia who went 6.2 innings, striking out 7 and getting 10 groundball outs.
- He was followed by a parade of relievers, Fernando Salas (.1), Josh Kinney(.2) and Royce Ring(.1) to get through the 8th.
- Memphis’s closer Pete Parise gave up 1 hit and struck out 1 to get the save.
- David Freese accounted for the only run in the game with a solo HR. He was also 2-2 with a walk. Nice game David.

Jaime Garcia with 3 K’s, 4 ground outs thru 3 IP.
Free Allen Craig back in the lineup … excellent.
Redbirds take Game 1!!!
jaime ROCKED IT tonight… proud of those redbird boys. man alive, freese deserves a call-up.
We could sure use Freese’s bat at 3B.
3B flavor of the month- Freese, Mather, Barden, Thurston, Wallace, Derosa,
Craig, Freese, ??
This is a bit off subject, but did anyone see Boggs out of the pen last night? He was LIGHTS OUT….he’s shown a good arm and solid, yet inconsistent breaking ball in the rotation but he got the chance to air it out last night and looked like a completely different pitcher. Wouldn’t mind seeing him there the remainder of the regular season to see how he responds to more frequent usage.
Boggs performance last night certainly deserves a further look to see if he can maintain some semblance of that effort.
outstanding start from garcia..watched the game on milb.tv and he was dominate..i think he should be the #1 or 2 ranked prospect to start next year or at the end of this year
clutch homerun from freese in the game..i hope he gets a shot to be the starting third baseman next year..derosa hasn’t impressed me so far, i know he’s hurt but still..age
will eventually catch up to him
Got to think Boggs gets a strong look for the pen next year, if he doesn’t crack the rotation. Garcia seems like a heavy favorite for the rotation next year, right?
Also good to see that Chris “The Missile” Gissell pitch well even though he took the tough loss.
