for amphetamines.

The suspension will commence at the start of the next season.

This kind of stuff is frustrating.

Didn’t he have some issues at Fresno State as well?

Looks like Devin Shepard is listed as restricked as well. Did he get suspened?

Shepp must have packed his bags for home before Batavia’s season began and the Cards put him onto a restricted list. Should be nothing to do with chemical analyses. Its too bad. Shepp has a MLB body, but the only path to success is to keep working at it.

Wonder who will start the season at 3rd base for Quad Cities at the start of next year. I had Ahmady penciled in there. Figure Curtis should move up to PB after a strong finish @QC, and Rocco and Matt Carp who are 24+ ,are getting a little old for low A and should be in the mix for high A or the vacancy here at for Springfield. Maybe it will be Niko’s time to take advantage of the situation and resurrect his career at Quads.

  5. restricted doesn’t always mean bad, a player can get permission to leave early (school for example), that places him on the restricted list.

Sheppard collected no at bats in 2009. His season would have started at Batavia, until he was placed on a restricted list. He may have had other worthwhile things to do, but to develop as a player, a man has to invest time. It has to be rare that a player takes a year off and returns to climb the ladder.

If Ahmady had not been suspended by Fresno State, he might not have been available for the Cards in the draft. He will have to learn to avoid substances that are monitored or find a new job.

Slightly off topic, but speaking of prospects recently among the not-playing, I noticed this in a Baseball Prospectus chat currently running (subscription required for the whole, interesting thing, I think):

“Bill (New Mexico): With Wagner Mateo unceremoniously flushed by the Cardinals because of his still-not-named vision problem, are there any indications of anyone else sniffing around to pick him up? Maybe on a low-base, high-incentive deal of some kind? Or is he just untouchable unless/until the problem is resolved?”

“Kevin Goldstein: There are a lot of teams kicking the tires on Mateo, and he is playing in a HUGE showcase down in the Dominican this weekend.”

Does anyone know what this “HUGE showcase” is?

yes 3B will be interesting at QC. More so the distribution of Curtis, Racobaldo, and Carpenter. They all seem too old or advanced for QC and not ready for Springfield. There is no room at 1st for them at Palm Beach so how do they all fit in at 3B at PB? There was once talk of moving Curtis to 2nd so maybe that happens this year and maybe one of them (Carpenter?) plays some OF.
