I don’t believe Parise is eligible. he signed a FA contract in june of 2007. 2007 draftees aren’t eligible yet so i doubt he is.

He’ll certainly be added to the 40-man (if he’s Rule V eligible).

Anybody think parise (not parisi) has boosted his value enough to be at risk from a rule V claim?

Thompson’s 2009 contract was for $650k. Not worth risking an arb award of $1 mm. The Cards can always sign him in January if no one else is calling. There also may have been some bad feelings created by the decision to leave Brad off the playoff roster.

If I only shared your optimism that the Cards had seen the light on how much they should pay a long reliever. Of course they probably could have had Thompson back for $800K and that extra $400K might be worth it for his experience and ability to spot start. It would depend on who he was ho back though.
