What does it say about our organization that we have the least number of minor league free agents (7) in all of baseball?

I would think that it reflects how young the system is overall, i.e. not many players have been in the system long enough to reach the 6 year limit. It also shows that they no longer have needed to pick up the older rejects from other systems because they have enough young quality to fill up their minor league rosters.
I largely agree with Hoosier. It reflects that the Cards are working with the guys who they sign as amateurs. Of the 7 free agents, only 1 was signed by the Cards, Yarbrough.
The others include 4 southpaw pitchers who were minor league vets, when we obtained them. The more outsiders who the Cards obtain, the more of them will be close to minor league free agency.
The total number of MiLFAs is slightly greater, since Brian Barden and Royce Ring had already gone free agent before this list was released. (See comment at the bottom of that article.) That’s still a very small number.
Speaking of “more outsiders who the Cards obtain,” RoRyWag, there were some interesting names among the other teams’ free agents. Some judicious dumpster diving might be possible with this mob. Note, and emphasize, the term “judicious”; wholesale acquisition of retreads is certainly not to the point. Question for discussion: who among these free agents “should” the team consider taking a chance on, if any?
I note that one of the names on this list is a certain first-round Cardinals choice from times gone by…
