jukich has a strong gb rate - about 50% at every level in the minors. he pairs that with a steady k rate between 7 and 9 per 9 IP. that explains the club's interest. for a rule V pick, he seems very reasonable. he is everything brad thompson should have been but wasn't. if brad had been able to strike 7 guys out per nine, he'd still be on the club.

there's no saying if jukich's talent translates to the big club. i'd guess he goes to ST and gets the full Duncan. if he doesn't succeed he'll go back. my guess is he gets a shot as a longman and spot starter if his pitches seem to translate to the big leagues.

We lost Mike Parisi... its really to bad they couldn't have protected him... I knew as soon as I saw he was left off the 40 man that he was a gone... loved his 12 - 6 curve was really a good one... I hope the Cubs offer him back.... thinking is it pretty much came down to protecting Ottavino or Parisi and they choose Ott.... better upside and FB...

Jurick is not a lefty reliever - his splits are actually worse against LH batters. He most likely will compete as a starter.

He was lights out in the last month of the season and has been even better in the Dominican League this winter. He may have been injured earlier in the year. My guess is that strong finish and Winter league is what convinced the Cards to take a chance on him.

Parisi might make the Cubs and turn out to be an OK #4/#5 or middle reliever. I don't think we lost John Santana though. :)

Oh and I would expect both are going to be around in ST but not sure if we will keep them long term, or maybe deal one of Reyes/Miller if they pan out

Jukich is a Lefty who had a 4.22 FIP in 123 IP in 29 games 17 starts in AAA last season. 7.76K/9. Probably bullpen filler behind Miller and Reyes.
