A lamentable outcome for the lefthander to be sure. Hopefully he has a speedy and full recovery from the surgery.
In practical terms for the teams depth, this isn’t of huge import. Freeman was in the mix but there are several left handers in the high minors right now: Evan MacLane, Jaime Garcia, Tyler Norrick.

Bummer, but he’ll be back.
Good chance he comes back better than ever. Hope he’s competing for a roster spot in 2012
Someone needs to link in the Shelby video. It was pretty impressive.
Generally relievers recover faster than starters. So he should be back in time for some sort of winter action, and ready to fully participate by next spring.
I wuld say it is a big hit if he doesn’t come back given there are no solid lh reliever prospects behind him.
I am optimistic he’ll come back though. I am almost happy to see guys get
TJ early – probably wont need it later and could come back stronger.
Dang – There goes our chance at LOOGY who could pinch run and go mound, OF, mound – in the next year or two. Oh well – best of luck Mr. Freeman.
That’s pretty dissapointing…. My seats for the springfield cardinals are right by the bullpen and every once in awhile you’ll get a guy to talk baseball with you. Sam almost always talked baseball and he had a live fastball… i have no idea how hard he actually threw but I recall seeing the gun hit 95 several times in the stadium, probably means he was throwing 92, but he was a smart kid that really seemed to love baseball and really understood pitching… take that last statement with a grain of salt knowing that I’m not a baseball scout and that I’m basing it off of probably a dozen half hour conversations.
