Today we get our first dose of minor league games against OTHER teams! Huzzah! The org goes 3-2 on the day.
Tommy Pham winks in your general direction.
Memphis 6, New Orleans 5
- Trey Hearne allowed 3 runs (2 earned) over 2 IP. He struck out 2 and allowed 3 hits. Hearne had something of a rebound year in 2009 after being loaned to the Mexican League in 2008. He posted a 3.68 FIP in 120+ Springfield innings but it was supported mainly by an unsustainable low homerun rate.
- Brandon Dickson tossed 2 innings with 1 hit, 1 walk and 1 K.
- Chuckie Fick allowed 4 hits and 2 walks in 2 innings of work. He was tagged for 2 runs while striking out 2.
- Matt Meyer, Matt Scherer and Rich Rundles all pitched scoreless frames. Scherer picked up the win.
- Daniel Descalso was 2-for-5. With Jarrett Hoffpauir out of the organization, Descalso has a clear spot at second in Memphis for the next two years. The signing of Skip Schumaker virtually guarantees that two year tour of duty though.
- Tyler Henley was 2-for-4 with a walk. I expect a big 2010 for him.
- Daryl Jones walked twice and singled.
- Colt Sedbrook singled and walked.
- Amaury Cazana Marti, ruler of all things baseball, hit the go-ahead triple and walked. Maybe he walked out a go-ahead triple? It could happen.
Springfield 7, Jacksonville 12
- Scott Gorgen, keeper of my favorite FutureRedbird changeup, was perfect for two innings striking out 2.
- Brad Furnish allowed 3 runs (2 earned) in 2 innings on 3 hits while striking out 1.
- A rough day for Arquimedes Nieto and Blake King allowing 5 runs (4 earned) in 1.2 innings and 3 runs (0 earned) in 0.1 innings respectively.
- Jason Buursma pitched two scoreless frames.
- Adron Chambers was 2-for-5.
- Curt Smith was 2-for-3.
- Chris Swauger, Francisco Rivera and Matt Arburr went yard.
- Tommy Pham was 3-for-4 with a triple and a HR. He also walked.
Palm Beach 0, Jupiter 10
- A rough day for Palm Beach pitching as no one really stands out in the box score. Adam Veres was saddled with the loss allowing 2 ER in 2 innings.
- Jonathan Gonzalez allowed 4 ER recording just 2 outs.
- Pedro Rodriguez and Houston Summers both had 1 unearned run to their lines while pitching 1.1 and 2 innings respectively.
- Richard Racobaldo was 2-for-4 with a double.
- Osvaldo Morales was 2-for-2 with a double.
Quad Cities #1 5, Greensboro 0
- Michael Blazek, Deryk Hooker, Chris Notti and Zach Russell all pitched a pair of scoreless innings. Andres Rosales finished off the game with a scoreless 9th. Blazek struck out 4.
- It was death by paper cuts with 10 different QC players reaching base.
- Ross Smith walked and singled.
- CJ Beatty and Travis Tartamella both doubled.
Quad Cities #2 3, Marlins #5 0
- Edgar Lara was 2-for-4 with a double.
- Hector Alvarez was 3-for-4 with a run scored.
- Rainel Rosario singled with 2 RBIs.
- 6 pitchers combined for the shutout.
- Reynier Gonzalez struck out 2, walked 1 and allowed a hit in his two innings.
- Kyle Heim tossed a pair of frames allowing a pair of hits.
- Tyler Lavigne — I’m assuming no relation to the singer — walked 1 and struck out 1 in his two innings.

Anyone had a sighting of Matt Carpenter, the third-baseman
who zoomed from Batavia to Palm Beach in ’09?
good question. I haven’t heard anything about Matt Carpenter this year. I hope he can continue to play like he did last year. I was impressed with the guy, and was impressed with his college play.
no reason with a strong 2010 that Descalso can’t be on the Cardinal bench next year. He has laready played some SS and 3B in the minors.
What in the world happened to Jose Martinez? Anybody know where he is?
Anybody have a detailed report on Kyle Heim? He is a Missouri boy and I went to college and church with his sister.
pierce, i thought he was quietly released last year in august or so.
Pierce — Jose Martinez played in the games Mar. 19th. He had to
return to his home last spring because of a family emergency. When
he returned, he needed shoulder surgery, and missed the entire season.
He could challenge Descalso for some 2B time at Memphis.
Yeah, I spoke a day too soon.
