Derrick Goold again.

Less surprising than the last round. Brad Furnish, a former second round pick, was a left hander who was touted early but not someone whom I’ve ever bought into. His command started to deteriorate and he just never progressed as a pitcher.

Knuckleballer Charlie Zink gets released to free up AAA innings for other pitchers. Zink was more of a circus act than a serious sixth starter for the big league club.

Tyler Lavigne was a minor (heh) surprise, given that he was a 2009 pick. Granted, he was a really, really, reeeally late rounder, and he did give up 15 earned runs in 28.2 innings in Batavia last year, but the rest of his stats seemed to be decent (1 HR given up, 4.80 SS/BB ratio, 1.15 WHIP) and based on his brief mentions in the Daily Farm Reports, he was having an okay ST.

I’m kinda surprised by the adam veres release…didn’t lunhow say last year they expected him to be a nice sleeper?

I hate to see what improving means to the Cardinals! Furnish was clocked at 93 for most of minor league camp this season. The Cardinal lost a good lefty when they let him go.
