There’s a rumor that Tommy is moving out of Florida soon. You aren’t sure if it’s true and he hasn’t said anything to you about. He’s been so awesome lately so you choose not to think about what him moving could mean.
Memphis 1, Springfield 5 (7 innings)
Memphis
- Evan MacLane tossed 6.2 innings allowing all 5 runs (3 earned). He displayed his usual command striking out 3 against just one walk but the lefty was tagged for 9 hits.
- Charles Cutler was 2-for-2 with a walk.
- Mark Shorey was 2-for-2 with a double and a walk. Shorey continues to be an interesting question mark for me. I’m not sure how/where he fits in the organization but he’s continued to hit this spring. At age 25, with average at best defense, he’s behind both Allen Craig and Nick Stavinoha on the depth chart. Nonetheless, he’s a player I look forward to watching some video on and seeing in person to figure out what his future role may be.
- Jon Jay was 2-for-3.
Springfield
- Shaun Garceau tossed 6 innings allowing 6 hits. He struck out 1 and walked 1.
- Jim Rapoport was 2-for-3 with a double.
- Andrew Brown was 2-for-4 with a double.
- Curt Smith singled and walked.
Palm Beach 5, Quad Cities 1
Palm Beach
- Jared Bradford allowed 5 hits in 4 IP for 1 ER. He struck out 2.
- Mark Diapoules and Jason Buursma both tossed a pair of scoreless frames.
- Xavier Scruggs was 3-for-4 with a double.
- Tommy Pham, looking dashing, was 2-for-3 with a double.
- Francisco Rivera was 2-for-3.
- Roberto Espinoza was 2-for-4.
Quad Cities
- Daniel Calhoun was roughed up for 8 hits in 4 IP. Palm Beach scored 4 times off him (3 earned) while striking out once.
- Joe Kelly struck out 2 in 3 IP. He allowed 2 hits and 1 ER.
- Niko Vasquez was 2-for-4 with a double.
- Matt Adams was 2-for-3.

Mustn’t start thinking about Tommy moving up or I’ll start hyperventilating. Niko has been raking lately too…deep breath, deep breath
The Springfield News Leader today had the Redbirds 24 man roster listed today and no Pham. They have Hill as the starting catcher and Tony Cruz moving back to PB as the starting catcher there.
Why isn’t Tony Cruz starting at 3B for Springfield?
“Francisco Samuel, armed with a mid-90s fastball and among the organization’s top prospects, is nursing pain in his right (throwing) shoulder.
He will likely open on the disabled list, although his availability to throw bullpen sessions has Warner anticipating his addition in early April. However, no Cardinals official will set a a timetable.”
Disappointing about Cruz. I hope it is due to his offense and not his defense. I assume Derba is backing up Hill and Cutler is in PB. Cruz being in PB is as much a blow to Cutler as it is to Cruz.
Cutler is the backup to Hill at Springfield. No mention of Derba in the article.
