@Cario...Mulligan probably was moved to QC at the beginning of 2009 to work on things. He had just made the conversion to pitcher the season before and while he did all right in PB, he wasn't lights out. Not sure why he's back at Palm Beach after finishing last season in Springfield, although there are a number of relievers already in Springfield competing for the closer spot.

Although Matt Carpenter is 24 in Single A, he was just drafted last year and went through three levels in his first pro short season. The Cardinals obviously have him on a fasttrack, and if he performs, I wouldn't be surprised to see him in Springfield this season. Oh, and his current OPS is .983. :-)

Carpenter doesn't excite me yet. He has always been old for his league. If he OPS's .850 at PB I'll pay attention ( Alan Criaig OPs'd .899 there 2 years younger). As mentioned above I'm not big on Jackson either. unless someone steps up unexpectedly, I dont see the depth you do.

Ryan will start his arb years next year. I'd say he's gone in 2 years no matter what just do to finances (assuming we sign Pujols).

I see another logjam @ 3B in our future if Matt Carpenter keeps hitting. Between 3B & SS, we have Carpenter, Jackson, Kozma, Greene, Freese, and Ryan who are all players with some upside. I could see Green or Kozma being moved to 3B if Ryan can play with some consistancy and lock up the SS position for the big club. Of course if Freese plays well... Just move em to the outfield. Its been the "Cardinal Way" the last few years.

The system really has some nice position players with some upside. I hope they go pitching heavy this year in the draft.

"Infielder Mike Folli, starting at third, had two of Springfield’s five hits in a 4-2 loss Tuesday. Folli is hitting .462 to start the season. Folli was one of the young guys who arrived in spring training early, well before the start of minor-league camp, and was rewarded for the early arrival with some cage time with Cardinals’ hitting coach Mark McGwire.
