After seemingly appearing in every spring training report we posted this spring, Tommy Pham has undoubtedly re-captured our interest. Performance in spring training is always a tricky thing and it’s not a very good of future performance. That said, seeing signs of life out of Pham is hugely encouraging. The tools have long been there but the production never indicated he was going to get it together.

With the conclusion of yesterday’s game, Tommy was 20-for-42 good for a .476 batting average.  He’s walked 12 times and has an on base percentage approaching .600.  Of his 20 hits, 8 of them were for extra bases: 4 doubles, 2 triples, 2 HRs.

It’s been a tremendous spring for Pham and, in a farm system bereft of any real standout position players, he has an opportunity to stake out some space at the top of prospect lists. The wet blanket side of me has to remind everyone that it’s still just spring but what a spring he’s had. Now’s the point in the relationship when we ask Tommy if he wants to be exclusive during the regular season. . . let’s go steady, Tommy.

It was a pair of intrasquad games today. The pitchers generally threw to their (soon to be) teammates, so the scores for the games are tenuous at best. You’ll find individual highlights after the jump but don’t spend too much time trying to piece together a game narrative. Springfield players caught an early flight so you won’t see any names from that group.

A special thanks to John Vuch and the minor league staff for providing these details through today’s final day of minor league camp.

Some encouraging pitching for the Memphis squad and signs of life from a couple noteworthy position prospects. . .

And, of course, the spring fascination with Tommy Pham continues.

Kary Booher has the Springfield roster notes — highlights: Daryl Jones, Eduardo Sanchez, Adam Reifer and Pete Kozmanaut.

There’s a rumor that Tommy is moving out of Florida soon. You aren’t sure if it’s true and he hasn’t said anything to you about. He’s been so awesome lately so you choose not to think about what him moving could mean.

In Tyler Greene news, Julio Lugo has been dealt to the Baltimore Orioles for a PTBNL. This thins the MLB depth chart for MIF’ers, giving guys like Greene and Descalso the opportunity to be called up should an injury occur to the Trifecta (Ryan, Skip, Felipe).

“I’m telling you for the last time, 9 pitchers in the lineup isn’t even ‘crazy’ good.”

The Good news is that the Farm System won 2 games, the bad news is that we lost two games. The worse news? We battled ourselves! I don’t know what is going on with the organization but if we can’t figure out who our REAL opponents are…man, are we dysfunctional!
