HEY MY FUTURE REDBIRDERS……….GUESS WHO GOT PROMOTED TO QUAD CITIES?……….YA, IT’S YOUR FRIDAY NIGHT DFR!!!!!!

Memphis 6, Round Rock 1

  • There’s the Lance Lynn we’ve been looking for. Sure the 8 strikeouts in 7 innings are awesome. Sure he held Round Rock to no runs. Sure he only allowed 6 hits. For me, the most encouraging sign was 1 walk. Lynn needs good control to move forward in the game and this is the first positive step in that direction this season. Icing on the cake: 10 of 12 groundouts.
  • Ruben Gotay, Shane Robinson, Donovan Solano and Allen Craig all went 1-for-3 with a walk.  Sugar Shane had a double.
  • Mark Hamilton was 2-for-3.

Springfield 2, NW Arkansas 4

  • Aaron Luna continues to be a bright spot for the SCards this season going 2-for-4 with a double. He’s got an OPS north of 1.000.
  • Curt Smith was also 2-for-4 with a double.
  • Pete Kozma was 0-for-4.
  • Daryl Jones was 1-for-4.
  • Gary Daley went 6 innings allowing 4 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks. He struck out 4.
  • Thomas Eager struck out 2 and allowed 1 hit in 2 innings of work.

Palm Beach 10, Jupiter 5

  • Matt Carpenter was 3-for-5 with a double.
  • Tony Cruz was 2-for-5 with a double.
  • Richard Racobaldo was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and a walk.
  • Xavier Scruggs was 2-for-4 with a pair of … you guessed it … doubles and a walk.
  • 8 of Palm Beach’s 12 hits were doubles.
  • Richard Castillo allowed 3 runs on 5 hits and a walk in 6 innings.  He struck out 3.
  • Casey Mulligan continues his scoreless inning streak (13 this season) this year with a 1 hit, 2 K frame.

Quad Cities 2, Clinton 13

  • CJ Beatty picked up his first hit playing LF for the River Bandits.
  • Edgar Lara was 1-for-3 with a HR and a walk.
  • Shelby Miller took the loss with a rough outing. He went 4.1 innings allowing 6 hits and walking just 1. It’s good to see a low walk total especially in combination with 8 strikeouts but balls were finding holes (and errors) allowing 7 runs (5 earned).

Lynn with a nice outing. Looks like Casey Mulligan had a bad outing since he didn’t strike out the side.

CJ IS RIGHT IOWA IS COLD, BUT HE’S WRONG ABOUT THE PEOPLE BEING NICE. DON’T LET THEIR MIDWESTERNESS FOOL YOU, IOWANS ARE SCARY.

  3. Pierce says:

With a BABIP far over .450+, a K/IP ratio of 1.76, and a great GO:FO ratio, I am not worried about Miller’s ERA at all.

Mulligan has nothing more to prove in Quad Cities, and that has been a fact since last year.

Nice to see Lynn have a great outing without walking anybody. If Penny walks next year, he could definitely take over that spot if he develops the control he’s capable.

  4. Grant says:

    I DON’T KNOW WHAT WE’RE YELLING ABOUT!

Is there any chance they try and move Luna to 2B? I know he’s gotten a little playing time there, but not a lot. Is he just not good enough defensively to play there?

  5. Aaron says:

I’m not too very worried about Shelby, considering that 5+ ERA is accompanied by a 2.57 FIP and 41(!) strikeouts in just 23.2 innings. Shelby Miller is a bad, bad man.

Good to see Matt Carpenter continuing to produce, though I wish he would show a bit more power. Love the on-base skills, like the glove, but I just don’t know if he’s going to slug enough to contribute in a big way.

Also great to see Lynn finally have himself a really strong outing without filling the bases up with free passes.

    Yup.

    @Grant: Grant, follow C.J. Beatty’s tweets and you’ll understand.

    @ Pierce

You right Mulligan has nothing left to prove at Quad Cities. Thats why he hasn’t been there since early last year.
