We start off this set of links with Derrick Goold’s fantastic Q & A with one of my personal favorites, Scott Gorgen. He talks about his changeup and his need to develop a third pitch.
Brian Walton at the Globe-Democrat has four pitching sleepers to watch.
Marlon Morgan of the Memphis Commercial Appeal has some quotes from recently optioned Allen Craig with regards to his time in St. Louis and the non-callup of 2009.
Mitchell Page, Quad Cities’ hitting coach, has left the River Bandits organization for personal reasons.
Kary Booher has a piece for all you Matt Carpenter fans.
Andy Seiler has his 6th iteration of a mock draft up for the first round and the first supplemental.
- Pick 25 - Gary Brown, OF, Cal State Fullerton
- Pick 46 -Asher Wojciechowski, RHP, The Citadel
- Pick 50 – Addison Reed, RHP, San Diego State
Andy knows WAY more about specific draft prospects than I do but I think he’s off base with the Cardinals strategy come draft time. I’d expect them to select at least one raw high upside talent that is going to require a large signing bonus. They need another blue chip position player for the farm system. Rebuilding depth with college picks isn’t going to do much for a system that’s got a lot of marginal major league talent in AAA right now.

Agreed. I think pick 25 will be a high-upside guy that slides due to perceived bonus demands. They took the best bat in 2008 with Wallace, one of the top arms in 09 with Shelby. . .now I think they’ll go back to the bat with a guy like Castellanos, Josh Sale, or Austin Wilson (if he slides).
I agree I emailed Andy about his Cardinal picks and got an immediate response. He is just making his choices based on draft stock and team draft history.
Would we pop for Ragira in the supplemental and try to buy him out of Stanford?
I think he’s going to be a harder sign than Wilson.
Blake King may be the single goofiest looking human being alive if that picture is accurate.
@Andrew:
Might be but in the supplemental might be worth the risk. (always can use the pick next year if you dont sign the guy). I can see him signing a contract that allows him to go to school and only play summers for 3-4 years.
The guy is surely a talent and would be welcomed in our farm system.
I have followed Andy for some time now…rock solid Blog he keeps up and always on top of things. I however don’t agree with his latest Mock. I could see Asher being a Cardinal type pick in the 1S rounds but the other 2 picks I am not all for. I have Gary Brown going in the 1S rounds…and if we pick him there I would not mind it. I personally hope the Cards snag a high upside pick at #25 as well. There is always that guy or 2 who slips (regardless of hitter or pitcher) and Mo and DeWitt have both said they need to get high upside talent back in the system after losing a number of guys in trades and promotions. Some guys of interest for me (way to early to tell who will slide to #25 though): Brentz, Castellanos, Harvey, A. Wilson and Gausmann. Guys of interest to me with the 1S picks are: Littlewood (love this kid), Y. Cabrera, Paxton, Choice, G. Brown, Allie and Bettis.
