He mentioned in a recent interview with Derrick Goold that he had been a 2 pitch pitcher until this year, maybe he started developing it in AFL. Pitching coach Dennis Martinez told him he would need another pitch.

Slavish devotion to the lefty-righty matchup is a TLR hallmark so one cannot disagree that "they" may want a right-handed batting CF in Memphis. However, considering the Cards are a right hitting heavy team and Ras might be the best defensive player on the team, I think he needs to play everyday and just learn to adjust to the lefties as he did in the minor leagues. I would have preferred he started over Joe Mather today.

@cario–surgery last isn’t just MLB protocol, it’s medical protocol. You don’t open up somebody’s body unless you absolutely have to, and if the tear can be repaired by rehab, then surgery is unnecessary.

Also, I’m not sure Robinson’s status as a RH CF bat really brings anything to the table. The key for any outfield prospect in the near future is to either be able to play right field everyday or be capable of play all three positions. The LH/RH will sort itself out the bench players they have available at any time, which could include true RF and LF prospects capable of filling in at CF.

Didn’t Gorgen say that this was the first year he’s used a curveball since high school? Probably just soreness because he hasn’t thrown it much since. PJ, I would take Harvey over Paxton at 25 if available. Has Paxton’s season even started yet? Haven’t heard any reports on him. I also think it’s more likely that Paxton falls to 46 and may be available by then.

Springfield News Leader reports that recently Gorgen has been relying more and more on a curveball, where he has always been a two pitch pitcher. Could be why he has some elbow issues. I don’t think the elbow issue all of a sudden just popped up, just reached a point where he felt something different happen.
The milb protocol would be if a slight micro tear to rehab first and then TJ later. They won’t operate unless they have to, or he can seek another opinion.

@azruavatar: Az, yes and no. Robinson is the only true CF candidate that bats RH while Rapoport bats LH. With the permanent CF in STL already a LH hitter this lets Robinson possibly bring something to the table that Rapoport (and Chambers) do not. If the Cards determine that Rasmus will always struggle against LH pitching they may be reluctant to let Robinson go just yet. If they determine that a RH hitting Robinson wont hit LH pitching any better than a LH hitting Colby than they wont worry much about parting with him.
